When to Replace Old A99 antenna...

I've use HD black heat shrink of different sizes on an A99. Came out nice! No more splinters and didn't add much weight. Made for a nice antenna actually. But it wasn't something that everyone might do. The heat shrink I used does have UV protection as it was made for outdoor use. Might not have been the cheapest way to go about things, but it made for one nice antenna when it was done!! All black, stealthy, and easy to handle!!

I've used spar varnish for this purpose, it contains a UV stabilizer for outdoor marine usage, plus it retains some degree of flexibility. Never had any issues with it.

Get a aluminum antenna, and you won't have to worry about coating it or splinters...
