wilson 5000 roof mount install sealer needed?

do i have to use some silicon under and above the gasket. seller said no but figured id ask. im thinking good insurance. silicone grease or rtv?

I’ve only once installed a Wilson roof mount, and it was roughly 20 years ago.

I used no sealant aside from the supplied gasket and had no issues.

Last one I did was with a very thin layer of silicon on it.

If it's like my Sirio mount it shouldn't need any. The Sirio mount on my car was on there 9 years and didn't leak.

thanks for the replies i put it on dry as i read that rtv has acid in it that will slowly eat paint and rtv says to remove paint befor applying.

Part of me wonders if the reason people thought they needed sealant was they over-tightened the mount when installing it and split the rubber seal. You see it a lot with rocker cover gaskets on cars where a mechanic will keep on tightening that nut/bolt until it can no longer move resulting in the inevitable leak from the split gasket.

I use silicone grease like dielectric grease, (not silicone rtv sealant). Just coat the rubber gaskets, o-rings or whatever gasket you have and a little on the metal surfaces and it'll waterproof it really nice. That's what I've used for years in car accessory wiring that go through firewalls roofs etc. Never had a leaker yet
