i need some input on what kind to get for my ts440s/at and

my ic-740.i would like to keep it somewhat short as i'm kinda

limited w/mounting options<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":("> . i may be able to stretch between my two towers or from one tower over to a tall tree.only problem w/the towers is they're only 22' apart and appr. about 25' above the rooftop(to the top of towers).

the towers are almost dead-on w/north and south inline.

there is a roof inbetween the towers, thus limiting my install

to an extent.there is a tree to the SSE of the southern most

tower.so,i have a tree at southern-most part,40'-50' to the NNW is the (south)tower, then 22' (or so) to the (north)tower,

then about 18' to the northern most end of the house(gable end),which also is NNE of the north tower!this is a one story

ranch house BTW. ALSO,both towers are guy-wired at 3-points approx 5' from the top of each and tied-off to rooftop.

i was thinking i could run one leg (horizontal)from tower at the south,to the tree and go up the tree w/the other leg(vertical) and the feedline would be at the bottom of tree.(maybe up 10'-20' from bottom actually)

oh yea, from the tree to the nearest tower,it is appr.40'-50'.

i cannot tie-off to anything to the west of towers,as there is a small lake behind the towers and house!

also.nothing to tie-off to at the north of towers except the gable end of the house.BUT,i also have my guy wires from the north tower tied-off to the rooftop at that point? interference problems maybe?

anyways,i appreciate any thoughts y'all might have!

confused?me too!only way i could think of showing my

layout and possible wire ant configuration! sorry, but thanks!!

Slim,

It sounds like you have about 50 feet or so to 'play' with. For a 'flat-top' 1/2 wave dipole, 468 / 50' = 9.3Mhz, so you could squeeze in an antenna for 30 meters and up. If youcan figure some way to 'V' the antenna, either horizontally or vertically, you could possibly gain a few feet more, maybe enough for 40 meters (about 66 feet +/-).

Then you have some other possibilities like an inverted 'L', or feeding a set of the guy wires, or maybe feeding one of the towers. You could probably 'snake' a random length wire, or some other random/odd/unusual/wierd shaped antenna that would load with just a bit of 'finagling'.

The higher the better, but even low antennas work. Maybe not the 'best' in the world, but even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and then. Don't be afraid to try 'odd' ideas, wierd shapes, etc. As long as an antenna is high enough so that you don't 'clothes line' your self on it, it'll probably do sort of okay. The tuner in a '440 does have limits but sometimes those limits are further apart than you'd think. Doesn't hurt to try...
