Yaesu 857d needs factory alignment

I recently bought a 857d from someone used. I believe the previous owner got into the service menu and cranked up the power settings. I tested the radio and everything works great but the power output is way over the factory specs. I have to wonder what else is way off the factory specs. I have heard each 857d is aligned and will have different service menu settings than the next one coming down there assembly line. I don't want to cause component failure by using it with the power cranked way up and what ever else is out of alignment.
I have contacted the Yeasu service dept in Cypress,California to see if they can realign the radio back to factory specs. I know the radio is not under warranty anymore so I have to question how much it will cost me to have the factory realign it for me? Such a shame, the radio is in pristine condition. At least I will know its working right if the factory will repair it for me.

Service Menu

WARNING: changing these will reset all the memories.

I want to warn you do not change these values unless you are sure of what you are doing.

To get them turn transceiver off. Press and hold the A,B,C keys; while holding them in, press and hold in the [PWR] switch for 1/2 second to turn the tranceiver On. Now let go of all keys.
Press F key to finish after making changes.


I found these settings on the web, they are from a factory alignment

Look at menu settings from 24 to 44, if any are set to 255, they have been "cranked up"

I bought 2 radios like you did that were cranked on everything, I guess the owner did not know what any of the settings did so just cranked it.

I set them using this list and the radio ran beautiful.

You can ask other users on here to look at their settings and you will see, they are very close to the same settings so they could help you out.

I got the 857d back into factory specs on output power. I will still send it out to the Yaesu repair center for a realignment if Yeasu can accommodate me at a reasonable price. The previous owner had all the menu settings from 24 to 44 at 255 :bdh:

Yaesu's price actually isn't as horrible as you might think. I'm guessing that you're looking at about an hour of work, about $85. If you want to send it to a 3rd party, there is a local guy I know of that used to work for HRO and still contracts work for them. I haven't had a reason to use him, but other locals swear by him. Let me know....

I just like the piece of mind knowing things are working as they were intended to be. I have talked all over the globe and in my own state with 100 watts output. Why some people have to try and get an extra 25-50 watts out of a nice Hf rig like this is beyond me. I guess its hard to give up that old CB mindset. Not knocking anybody who uses CB's in any way shape or form.
