ok so i have been gone according to my login since june 6, 2009....i got poor sold off my ts 500 and a week later someone decided to jack my radio (stryker 490 [first series]) so i suffered a few days of sick depression followed by weeks of rage everytime i thought about a radio ....dug the uniden out and cried often ... well i got another stryker490 (one of the last first series lucky me) from the same shop i orginially bought from different tech ...and was less than satisfied...found a new radio tech and BAM! whose been talkin skip with stock antennas on my new pete? so needless to say i have the fever yet AGAIN hah ....this time i'm goin big ....i want CLEAN audio ...i don't want 5 channel splatter (ahem....the likes you find on the superbowl and around the railroad tracks). i've done good for me across wyoming and montana and even alberta and saskatchewan the last few days ....talked to r.i., florida, ky,west virginia, mississippi and arkansas .... i'm thinkin a sweet 16 with a fan kit ...feel like the 1600v would be pointless not seeing the need for the 350 driver when the stryker will just over drive it ....any other thoughts? i'm also thinking either a pred10K or monkey made single antenna ...fancy new coax ya know the deal ....any thoughts would be much appreciated and again ...i HATE a splatterbox :p clean clean clean love a clean radio! thanks in advance feels good to be back on the forum ...if only i could quit twitching between sunset and sunrise it will all be good

thanks psycho...helpful :D ...9c1 i'm getting 130 watts out of the stryker490 running a steady 13.8v w/ four batteries i would love to get a minimum 800 watts or more out of the setup so i guess thats gonna fall in the "MOPOWA" catgegory lol thanks for any input

10K above MM, I've always had less receive with a MM versus any other antenna. I'd back that 490 with a straight 6 pill and let it cruise. TS amps are hogs when it comes to power. Just my .02

This "I want a clean amplifier" diatribe needs to go. If you overdrive any amp it will splatter and any LOUD radio behind an amp will bleed.
If I turn the mic gain on my radio wide open if I am putting an S-9 on someone my audio will nail all 40 too......unless an amplifier has major problems the rule is Garbage in = garbage out.
If you can turn the dead key on that radio to 10-20 watts then you can run a class c 4 or straight 6 pill and at that low a pep, you'll be loafing both amps. You would however blow a 4 pill Texas Star up.

thanks for the input fellas ....okay say we throw out the "clean" diatribe as psycho suggests do we go bigger than a 6 pill(i.e. we wanna be the loudest m'fer rolling down the road)? and what are some recommendations xforce, tstar, fatboy, etc, and what is the most most bang for buck equation? what results should we be looking at? what problems might be encountered with a brand new truck with the DEF systems and what not....the budget is fairly flexible but at the same time dont want to overspend or underspend lol ....thanks in advance guys i know it seems like beating a deadhorse i just want to be satisfied with my purchase and not have to make another one for quite some time if ever

I think if you do some research on your own, figure out what you want and narrow it down to a couple specific questions you'll get a better response here. Asking what you did above is just draining. Really...;).

The antenna system makes the signal, the amplifier helps some.

throw your money at the antenna, then an 500 watt amplifier is more than enough to get where you want to go.

Of course you can always go with more wattage, but it will take 2000 watts to get one more S unit over 500 watts.

Of course the saying goes, if you are going to play you got to pay.
