Uniden bc 980 ssb radio

since the 880 is $159 im guessing a ssb version will be near $200 . who wouldn't spend a few bucks more for a maggy 257 ?

Hey, Cruiser, don't you just love how not one of those 3 replies even remotely responded to your question????

Wish I had some info for you as I too would like to see the 980 someday before I decide if it's worthwhile or not, but I haven't seen anything concrete to date.

No info yet on a date. From what I heard Uniden isn't going to say much until it passes through the FCC process. Same as with the 680 and 880, we didn't get info on them until a couple of months before they were available.

Probably better off going that route compared to some manufacturers that have been touting certain radios as "coming soon" and a year later everyone is still wondering where the radio is......

I am sure it will beat the Stryker SSB radio to market.

6 roger beeps... :(

direct from the stryker website-
Six Roger Beeps - Six different roger beeps are included with the SR-955HPC. These are controlled using a switched that is located on the front panel. This is a feature that you will find on virtually no other radio direct from the factory. Most importantly you can create your own customizable roger beeps using our PC software and then load them on to the SR-955PHC's on board memory!.

THIS IS A FEATURE THAT YOU WILL FIND ON VIRTUALLY NO OTHER RADIO DIRECT FROM THE FACTORY!!! virtually no other radio???? you mean there may be another manufacturer that believes cbers are that vain that they need their own customizable 6 roger beep cb radio??? OMFG i'd say now i've seen everything....but i'm sure i haven't. i think i'm afraid to see this possible new uniden radio. REALLY AFRAID. thank god i've got my XL & 2 others NIB saved for the apocalypse. me & mad max(road warrior) will be ready to search the wastelands for fuel....without any stupid toys.

the stryker looks a nice radio, must admit i'm curious about their claimed stable ssb operation (a rare concept in 10/11m multimodes). looks too good to be true, but hopefully it is true.

if the stryker SSB final version for sale is as good as the unit DTB has , and considering the plethora of programming features it has , it should make a nice dent in the RCI/magnum/galaxy sales . i hope they keep the black knobs :)

going by the flexibility of the coarse and fine clarifier ranges, i can't help wondering if it has dds. which would defo help stability over the older pll radios.

it certainly looks good, has some nice programmable features, but top quality ssb performance is a must if it wants to take ranger/presidents crown away.

going head to head with the uniden bc980 and the cre8900/ss6900 type radios should be interesting.

one things for certain, with the way radios have been going through revisions lately, i won't be rushing out to buy any of them, better to sit and wait to see how they fair over time for performance and reliability before i even think about replacing ranger and uniden/president radios i know seldom if ever let me down.

fools and their money are easily parted, but it takes more than bright leds, shiny fascias and dubious promises of performance before i dig deep, i want time served reliability.
