Okay I have seen some chatter about this but can't seem to find out what radios are capable of this and how you do it. I was hoping someone here could enlighten me.

I have never played EME, or Moon Bounce, but there are guys that love the challenge of it .
CW or digital work on VHF, CW, digital and SSB on UHF and CW and SSB on Micro wave frequency's.
You need a radio with a good front end, and an high gain antenna array to work weak signal stuff.
Good low noise pre-amp, a stout amp, low loss every thing is a must, and don`t forget Doppler effect.

Check out EME, Earth-Moon-Communication. (W6/PA0ZN )
for some info lots of good stuff.

I've always been fascinated with EME. I have never done anything or witnessed it in person, maybe one day.

I do know enough that I would definitely want an experienced elmer, otherwise I'd probably go broke.

I would like to visit somebody's shack one of these days.

Fascinating stuff.

Did it a couple of times about 10 years ago with a budget setup on 2 meters.Cw only. 200 watts carrier gasfet preamp 4x 18 element long yagis fed with ldf 450. like i said a budget setup. A lot of work for a few scratchy dit dahs. kind of cool technically , Loved sweeping the array past the moon and listening to the increase in static for testing.Lookup W5UN,s site to see what a good setup looks like ( he uses a jeep as a rotator) De VK4AAP

A lot of guys do EME on 6 with a single yagi and 400 watts or more on 6 meters, using JT65A. Lance W7GJ, often goes on DXpeditions with a single 8 element yagi and 1KW solid state amp. I have heard him say you need at least 50' of boom length to get the proper amount of gain on 6.

I heard he took a KX3 on his last one and found it not stable enough for EME work.
