The torsion spring for the garage door broke in two. Until the one we ordered comes in we needed a way to raise and lower the door. It is way too heavy for Homer and wife to lift, and furthermore, I leave for work considerably earlier than she does and she will not tolerate her car out on the drive, nor the door left open.
Some cable, clamps, pulleys, and buckets. Four bricks were too light to lift the door, and five were too heavy for the door to descend. So water in the buckets and I found the proper weight in between to get the job done.

Let me guess . . . You are going to use the old, broken spring as a coil for your next antenna project . . . If you didn't think of that yet I imagine you would have gotten there anyway . . . lol . . .

Nice job on fixing the problem at hand.

It's a temp fix. Sometimes the door will go up, sometimes I have to give it a a little assist to get it to work, but it always does the job.
Weights on pulleys do not have the same torque throughout the entire movement.

My wife said you guys would think I'm a redneck if I posted this. I told her you already did.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
