Cant go wrong with a rci ranger 2950dx either, there is a chip that plugs in for the cb bands, its a freat radio for the price. Its 10-12 meters, so if you get your ham ticket you have a radio already. I got mine after i git the galaxy 949, the 2950dx is way better in sideband.

You wanted to get an illegal amplifier in the first place does it really matter??? Since your 949 was peaked and tuned if it can dead key more then 4 watts or swing past 12 watts PEP on SSB it too is now illegal. So since you already now own an illegal radio a converted and tune Magnum S9 or other Export radio is really no big deal in the grand scheme of things.
Well,Eagleyes could always have it aligned and tuned for a 4 watt dead key with no more than 100% modulation and forget the amp if he wanted to be legal. Choice is yours.
I dont own a 949 or a export yet. Everything is illegal nowadays. Asking questions about these radios to find out which would be a good nice radio to get that would be something to keep for a long time. Yes it may be an illegal radio but I want something that is very good. Am and ssb and yes I could just have the radio tuned to be somewhat legal. Thank you very much Lil'Yeshua for your help and thanks to the others. Ill have to research those radios that have been mentioned. But I am curious. Out of the brand of radios that have been mentioned. What radio would have the least of bleeding or swaying on ssb?

Again these guys/girl? Can steer you in the right direction for a descent ssb stable transceiver. You'll have to listen to feedback and in the meantime you can do a search for ssb radios and start looking at the specs. Also if you research this forum you can find valuable info.
If you want a CB ssb radio,look at the Uniden 980. It is stable on ssb and costs around $150.

If you want a 10 meter radio that's converts to operate the CB band(illegal) then you can try a Magnum 257 hp.

You'll just have to spend more time getting familiar with the hobby and who's who before you can make an informed decision.
One forum member I tagged behind is M42Duster. He'll try a radio out and post any defects if any.
If you want stability on SSB, some of the older Uniden and Cobra radios are pretty hard to beat. Whenever someone asks for a top ten best, the Uniden Grant XL and (Taiwan or Philippine made) Cobra 148 GTL always tends to make the list. AM has fairly punchy audio, and SSB performance is awesome and stabile. If you pick one up in good shape it can run you $60-$100. Send it out for an alignment and inspection, maybe have it recapped. You'll have a top notch radio that will probably last another 30 years.
One thing that I am curious about is being I have a wilson 1000. With a 10 meter radio would I have to have some other antenna or special connector to be able to use my wilson 1000 with a 10 meter radio? Because I have watched on youtube the people call the antenna connector a different number than pl-259

Have you looked at the magnum 257hp, it does 60-80 watts. Small radio, doesn't have all the bells and whistles like echo and talkback. But they aren't 400 dollars either. Check eBay you can get them for around 220 shipped and they are easy to mod for 11 meter cb band.
