I must have missed that quote. Wherever it came from it shows a complete ignorance and by that I mean a couple definitions of the word. I know extras that are as stupid as they come and are far from advancing the hobby. In fact they are an embarrassment to the hobby. It's not the class of licence the operator has but rather the class of operator that has the license.

There is only so much to be learned by building a J Pole antenna or talking on satellites. Moonbounce is cost prohibitive and probably out of reach of 90% of everyone licensed just due to the size of the antenna needed and the amount of land needed to operate those antennas.

I believe that far more than 10% of the amateurs can indeed actually afford EME since with today's digital modes a single long-boom yagi and a 150 watt brick amplifier will work EME. No huge expense and no elaborate and land hungry antenna system required. A friend of mine could hear his own echos with just 150 watts and a pair of 13B2 yagis.

I realize if I want to talk on 75 or 160 that I need to put up a decent antenna, but I have computer equipment here that seems to crash when I try to use amplifiers
