Just what ever one needs!!! What a steal at $13 No need to incase it in epoxy either! LOL

"Provides Massive Forward Swing No Matter What the Dead Key" LOL I can not believe that "Super Clear Modulation" follows that above!

No mention of Instanious Splatter Box or insane heat build up from massive increase in harmonics! LOL

In my mind I am picturing 1/4 watt dead key swinging to 40 watts....LOL

I found a big firecracker looking thing in a radio years ago. I cut away the red plastic coating and found a piece of small pvc pipe filled with plaster. Once I broke that apart I found the capacitor and resistor inside. Some tweaker went to a lot of trouble to hide what it was.

yea a few years ago i bought some boxes of cb stuff from a woman cleaning her garage,,, it had 4 of those granpa grandma things in it brand new,,,,looks like they used a icetray as a mold to pour melted hot glue around whatever is inside,,,, three or four wires coming out out them,,,,still sitting in a box i doubt if i will ever use them and i would hate to put on ebay for some one not knowing better to get,,,,,

Sounds like the M-80 Modulators that were on ebay some years back.

I pulled one out of a radio that went bad and it had 4 wires on it. 2 went to a resister location then the other 2 wires went to power and ground. I opened it up and the 2 wires to power and ground were just dummy wires for looks. they did not hook to any thing inside the block of stuff they put it in. all it was for is a diode resister mod for R264 or R238 location, depending on what board the radio had in it. the guy paid 50.00 for the part and installation back then and it was around 2002 when I pulled it out. very high priced back then for a diode resister mod. to duplicate it all you had to do was lift the leg of the resister and put a diode along with the resister.

Didn't know whether to laugh or cry; so I did both.
Considering the cost of a $.05 diode, for fifty bucks, I'd say that guy made a huge profit margin . . .

I've taken out a lot of those diode/swing mods on SSB radios, as I'm sure that you have too. For AM/only radios, I think the cap/resistor mod works fine, so long as the owner doesn't turn the mic gain up too high a let it go into flat top modulation.

As you well know, SSB radios are NOT a candidate for that kind of mod, and if the owner wants to operate a decently operating SSB radio, then he should pass on that kind of mod altogether. The average CB operator never seems to get that understood though - huh?

Your correct Onelasttime!! Most people or the average CB'er as most would call them, don't have a clue to what is being done when they take their radio to a tech. Especially the truck stop hack ones!! Boy they will try to dazzle the shizz out of you with that meter!! Look at the swing LOL! I'm sure a lot of guys have heard that one before!! Mant OTR drivers don't have time for letting someone have their radio for weeks. Just the nature of the beast. Best to just leave the radio stock and run it like it is out of the box. Especially AM only radios as most work just fine out of the box for an average person. Need more power, then get your learn on and understand a little what you are trying to accomplish!! Too many just dive in without any knowledge at all and it comes back to bite them on the rear every time!! Like I said, best to just leave the radio stock and get your antenna setup best you can and roll with it for OTR truckers or even average CB'ers. JMHO's.

When I ran over the road I learned to always have a backup radio with me, if something went wrong the backup would go on the dash and the one that needed repair would ride under the bunk until I got home.

At least this guy isn't trying to hide what his components are and it's half the price.lol

True....My only complaint here is the insanely cheap lytic being used! $0.16 to $0.19 for a low grade 85°C 1000 hour cap and Panasonic or Nichicon rated for 105°C and much longer 3000-5000 hour rating would cost $0.34 to $0.44 each.

LeLon makes crap capacitors that have a terrible track record for life cycle!!! I would not trust them in anything I did not want to see again anytime soon for service. Last I checked their ESR are all rather high. I would not trust them to last 10-20 years. In fact you would be lucky to see 3 years out of it.

Everyone I know that had tried them from Mousers stopped and publicly warned people. Now these guys where professionals using them in their shops. All of them had a huge spike in come-back work and it was the caps failing way too soon after the repairs. I try to learn from my elders and from hard working professionals that use a lot of parts.

I have had such bad luck in the past letting shops source parts that any more if a shop will not let me source parts and send with the work I will not give them my money to work on a unit. I only use the best parts from reliable distributors. I am not looking to save $0.019 scents per cap. If I get something repaired I like to know that chances are good that the parts I ordered and had them use will last 10 years or more! I am just another damn number to a shop but I am insanely important to myself. When recapping a radio most shop's will spend less than $5 on caps for that radio. I on the other hand have no problem spending $15 on parts for that radio that they would only spend $5 on. It is like rebuilding an engine with cheap parts that will not last versus quality parts. Unlike a starter or alternator which can be changed quickly and easily it is a pain in the ass to ahve a vechile down long enough topull the engine, clean-remanchine- clean, order parts, assembly it, reinstall it etc......Easier to just do it right the first time with quality parts. Sure it might still have an issue but it is less likely to fail with high quality parts.

HMM is this what I need to be able to talk on all 40 channels at the same time??
