Antenna length for walkie talkie

It does not work well at all. I purchased one a few years back. The 27" Cobra CB walkie talkie antenna (also sold under Cherokee) performs much better.

I have a bunch of old Radio Shack 4' telescoping walkie talkie antennas that were standard on the TRC 226. Those things are fantastic. Find one on E-bay and buy an adapter. Nothing works better on a CB walkie talkie.

I have the cobra HATA 27” CB Radio antenna (BNC) connector that I use on a few walkie talkies. I was just curious if there was anything else out there that would work better. I have an old GE CB Walkie Talkie that has a built in 1/8 wave antenna (close to 52 inches) and that Walkie Talkie can get out there well.

Performance would be great although you would be tethered to the antenna.
You could also connect it to your vehicle antenna.

I've got an entire collection of 40 channel walkie talkies. Hands down, my favorite is the Cherokee AH100. It nudges out the Realistic TRC 226 because the Cherokee has SSB, scannning, RF gain and a ton of and other features you won't find on other CB walkie talkies. The TRC 226 on the other hand does a great job with channel rejection and suppression of electrical noise. I'll oftentimes use a TRC226 as a mobile.

Radio Shack used a center-loaded 4' antenna on their walkie talkies. The one on the TRC 216, TRC 222 and other models screwed in. The one on the TRC 226 as I recall was essentially the same antenna but with a TNC connector.

Most current CB walkie talkies have BNC connectors. The Cherokee AH100 uses one. I bought a BNC/TNC adapter and used my Cherokee AH 100 with my 4' telescoping antenna from my TRC 226. With this simple set up, I could sit on a sand bar here in the Florida Keys and talk 15 miles local without too much trouble and hit plenty of skip.

Good luck.

I have a Magnum 1012 which is the same thing as a cherokee AH100. I found a ⅛ wave BNC antenna at a ham shop in the UK... my friend in the UK ordered me one as they won't ship out of the UK and has sent it to me.

I used one of these with a wilson 1000 attached unscrewed from the base. It worked great looked stupid and I have no idea what the SWR looked like.

i have used a 102" steel whip on a trc226 walkie using about 3' of coax and a handheld mic. all this mounted to the basket of my bicycle. powered with a little 6ah battery that i could recharge after about 6 hours of use.
this little rig was clean and reached out several miles easily.
my kid loved it. use to ride down to the overpass and talk to the truckers.
they would get a kick out of it.
i dont know what the swr was, musta been ok.

I just picked up a like New Cherokee AH-27F & am looking for a copy of the owners manual.Do you have it as well? I would be more than happy to pay for a copy if so.

Thanks,

Sorry, but I only have the manuals for my AH-100s.

I am pretty sure Radio Shack sold the Cherokee AH-27 under one of their TRC model numbers. From memory, I think they sold it as the TRC 232. Maybe you can obtain the manual you're looking for by finding the Radio Shack equivalent?

Hi.. getting acquainted with a new Albrecht AE2990 AFS SSB hand held and I am waiting for a 130cm / 51 in telescopic BNC based antenna bought in eBay. Look forward to see how it works.
