STOP BUYING EXPORT CB TYPE SSB TRANSCEIVERS

I implore newbies (especially) to consider purchasing and HF the first time out as opposed to an 10 meter export. I know there's a price difference, but it seems like most who purchase exports are usually needing to modify it right out of the box. I'm not just talking about the band mod. $300+ for an export then another $150 for the other modifications and a good mic's gonna set you back $500+. He'll for another $400 your gonna have a transceiver that no exsport could touch performance, and option wise.
Obviously these HF's can be used in the mobile and base.
With a Heil microphone and the Three band parametric EQ that's built into this and others like it (ft 950) how could one go wrong?
A $60 megga watt p/s and $100-$200 studio mic and your your SSB golden.
The ftdx 1200 operates 4 khz wide with a touch of two buttons on the face.
The price this one sold for is about what they've been selling for on eBay.
I did write the seller of this one before the listing ended and it was indeed mars modified.
Ready for 11 meters.
I wanted to throw my hat in but I've got this ft 950 I purchased only because I couldn't pass up the price, but prefer the 1200. I do have someone interested in the ft-950 and as soon as it goes I'm going to keep my eyes out for a 1200. I've heard them on there and they sound terrific. I've seen YouTube videos of there receive and they sound wonderful. 73

Well, good luck with your "crusade".

BTW, there are 4 1200's on QTH right now. I would never buy a used rig from flea-bay. YMMV
eBay, QHT, no difference. Du dilligance is the best policy.
There's plenty of good items for sale. Someone's buying these transceivers. Ask lots of questions and no problems should be had.
eBay's the best place to buy stuff.
Not as describedI? Get your money back and return shipping on PayPal.
Imo the worst place to buy stuff are these so called hamfest 's. Their not what they once we're.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion and your's is valid.
I don't subscribe to it but I respect it. 73.

I don't see a problem with export radios at all - except how they are hacked.

You take a regular Cobra 148 ch CB radio, mod/add channels, add talkback, add freq counter, better clarifier, make it dual finals; then you end up with a export radio by default. Hacking the 148; that I don't appreciate. I've restored my share.

The chassis of an export radio is not different at all than a regular CB. If you want all of those mods in your 148; then perhaps you should have bought a Galaxy 99v instead - IMO . . .

10M "exports" are junk. Absolute junk. Poor designs in the mixing stages and the fact that the band pass circuits from factory allow 10 AND 11M frequencies to pass thru, will let a "spur" leak thru on the 10M band from 11M. Almost all of the galaxy/ranger/connex radios, save for the actual CB radios suffer from this flaw. Nasty, drifty, warbly TX... poor RX sensitivity and/or selectivity... all for less than 1 S unit of output. Not worth it. Get a REAL CB if you're gonna use it on CB band. D858, MB8719, D2824, PLL02A are all good chassis to invest in.

If a person HAS to have extra output, get a decent HF rig and save some money while having nice clean output with very little or no harmonic "leakage" or "spurs".

No one will ever convince me otherwise. Just my .02 worth. :D

~Cheers~

And how much would all that cost including the 148?
I could be wrong but if that's true one's degrading the rigs performance putting items inside a rig that wasn't built for them. You left out the fan/fans a dual final frequency counter a 148 would most likely need..
Even if I am incorrect, after the cost of mods, one could get an excellent t's 440.
Yes it's 30 years old but I see them recapped and aligned for what a modified export goes for.
Maybe cheaper.
I'm fairly sure you do all you own work and that's great but many of us can't. I'd take the t's 440 any day over an export.
Exports usually have bells and whistles I myself think are toys. Not to mention a waste of space extra heat devices.
TalkBack? Why is that even an option? Rodger beep. Another wast imo. It's all about preference Robb. And we obviously have different ones, and that's cool.
It makes the word a less boring place. 73

I didn't look but I believe at least 3 of the 4 you saw are brand new and might come from over seas. Defeneyly wouldn't purchase anything from another country. If I'm gonna buy new I'll stay in the states. HRO or any of the big sellers. 73

It doesn't degrade the 148 performance. It just degrades your wallet having to pay a guy to hack it up.

I buy Galaxy 88's and 99's for ~$75-100, put in a few needed service parts, align them, and they are good to go.
I've never owned an export, and never will.
How Manny of those 88's and 99's do you own?
How many does one actually need?
I recalled from your past post's that you indeed do your own work.
If you had to pay for the rig then the mods/refurub would it be worth it?
I think I Know the answer.
Exitthirteen pointed out many of the things I've read about "10" meter export rigs that make them poor CB radios. No matter how you modify them. That's why I'm not interested. Never have been never will. 73

Thanks for your feedback Exitthirteen.

Can you be so kind enough to list some "real radios" that cover 11m wonderfully?

Cheers,

I'm sure your going to get an answer close to this. If it's a single, two, or three band transceiver it's not going to perform as well on 11 meters (once modified for cb) than it will for the band/bands in which it was built to be used on. 73

Fair enough matey, I wasnt aware that technology these days prevented a one box wonder, where by both bands could live in an awesome box in harmony.

So that Yeasu would not work well on 11m?

Apache Labs Anan. Beautiful AM, SSB and FM audio as wide or narrow as you want.

.....and a better receiver than you can get from fine tune cb.:sneaky:
