So are you of the opinion that limiters being removed is starting to become a thing of the past here in the states?
Since I have been looking at CB butchers most of them claim to not cut limiters or mess with the second harmonic traps.

I don't know if it is becoming a thing of the past. I think radio operators that are a bit older and wiser now are listening/learning more about what they want to accomplish. Perhaps a Mauldropper member can give you the real answer, since they are geared more for AM mode use.

I would hope that amp mfr will start making more of their amps B biased and AB biased and stop trying to impress with watt numbers and stop building C biased amps . . .

you will find most of the md members other than keydown queens are turning to clean is mean ...of course max audio vs carrier will always be swing for keydown machines ..a thing that does not interest myself

My intention was not to offend, but to defer the question to those who are more keen on AM operation than I am, since I pretty much do SSB.

Limiter removal has always been considered bad along with opening up clarifiers and coax length....

How many times have you read a post about someones new radio that swings 10 times the carrier, getting 30+ watts per final, their tech set it to 100% modulation and the signal is clean as a pin? Clean is good but so many people don't understand what it really means. The ones that think they do learned about it on YouTube and complain the most about hacked up radios are running some of the dirtiest gear. They don't have a clue.

They get caught up in the sales pitch and completely overlook the limitations of the gear they have. Look at the 70-80 watt radios with "4 finals" actually 1x1x2, so it's a dual final radio. They consider a 30-40 watt cobra 29 a splatter box (and it is) but for some reason their 80 watt non-certified radio using a pair of 50 cent fets for finals is better.

Some techs eventually get tired of their stupidity and tell them what they want to hear. If they don't lie to the customer someone else will and they lose a customer. You have guys that go from shop to shop looking for miracles and the tech with the best sales pitch always wins. These shops operate the way they do because it is what the typical customer wants.

As long as people are willing to pay for a custom dinosaur cb set timmy will be set for life. For what they spend on an old cobra 2000 and a full restoration they could have bought something far superior. A lot of guys would rather have something that looks cool with bells and whistles they don't use than than something that works good. Some of the modern hf rigs have decent AM bandwidth but since they don't swing their ass off and have a roger beep guys would rather have an export radio or pay the same amount for a custom cobra 2000.

So, do any of these guys ask the customer "What do you want it to do?".

That's where I start.

If he wants the clarifier to track down one channel, I ask if he wants to use SSB. If not, he won't care that the clarifier has been made too "touchy" to use easily on SSB.

But a SSB operator will want to know this before the job is done, and have a chance to rethink his wish list of radio features BEFORE finding out it won't do what he wants it to do.

I have listened to enough timmy phone calls on his stream to know that he certainly does not.
A typical conversation revolves around his "sheet" that he sends to a customer and they pick options on that sheet. When a customer does not pick the hose out options or the receiver upgrades or other snake oil he tells the customer point blank "do not cry to me when it breaks in 3 months because you won't do what I suggest you do" which is the "clean out with MY CLEANER", "meter replacement", "receiver upgrades", "regulator upgrades" and so forth.

Before he will look at your radio he wants half money up front.
That is usually several hundred dollars AND he has your radio.
He makes these people feel trapped.

I have not found anyone that uses tactics that are this dishonest and so blatant.
Timmy is the -absolute worst-
That might seem bad, but it might give us a glimmer of hope that these practices are not the norm.

What Timmy is doing to Mark19960 right now for example is a tragedy. An absolute tragedy.
And the guy will not speak up.

I stopped doing it because I realized I was insulting handicapped people by associating them with Snake Oil Timmy.

I don't think so.
He went on Rakish Friday night.
He pointed it out when asked but he didn't volunteer.

Now his original reason for calling Rakish was to talk about me.
That much he said but Rakish then played one of my videos and that threw a small wrench into things.

I am working on the details but Mark has a 980 mod and Timmy is calling it bullshit and telling any customer that asks that Mark is a fraud and a liar and that the mod does not exist.

Seems to fall in line with Timmy's conspiracy theories that he gets from infowars.
I speculate it's really because Lester is pulling his strings like a puppet.
Without Lester he is in trouble. Serious trouble.
