Hello all I am new to the forum here. I'm a young man that loves radio I recently brought a cobra 29 back to life and am very proud of it. Now I have acquired a texas star mod v-plus for free and when I got it I hooked it to my radio that I put a variable in and it would not key with 1 watt. took the cover off and seen some burnt resistors so I went to cbtricks and found the plans for it and replaced them found some outta my pile of junk radios and still not keying. well as always I got discouraged and was bout to give up but before I did I desoldered all the components cause I thought they might be a trace jumped. so what I'm getting at is I would like to learn hw I could get this puppy up and running the easiest way. I don't have enough money to send to a tech and plus I would like to learn cause I LOVE radio. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it a lot and willing to learn.

Thanks, Lead Foot Smokey Hills

Oh I forgot to add it has a sd1446 transistor inside it and I was looking at the datasheet for it and was wondering if the was any way I could get it working with the test circuit it gives with it. if anyone can add to the circuit to make it better or if you could give me any tips on how to make the circuit with the parts I have at hand.

the pdf 65kb is the one I clicked.

I have the transformers and all the caps and resistors that was in there and I unsoldered them all cause the amp was not working at all and the reason I wanted to use the circuit in the pdf for the sd1446 that's in there cause it looked easy and was wondering if someone could help me cause this will be my first amp that I get working / build and would love to learn how it works

You would have probably been better off fixing the one you had. That PDF doesn't really look like something you could put behind a radio. Maybe it would work for what you are doing but it would be a try it and see type of thing. I don't know if anyone would be able to walk you through it. You would have to start by testing all of the components you have to figure out what caused the amp to quit working to begin with. You want to make sure the parts you are using are good or you will be chasing your tail. After you do that, you could have fixed the one you had.

well at this point I about to give up I was hoping that someone could help get it some what working with the components I took out and some that I have in these junk radios I have. Might just throw it in the trash and give up on the hobby entirely took me a month to bring my cobra 29 back to life that I bought and didn't know was dead. I checked the transistor with a transistor tester and know its good but thanks for the info man so close to just giving up.

asked a local tech that I'm good friends with if he could walk me threw the process and he just laughed and shook his head no like I was trying to go into business I ant got the money to have it repaired or I would have in a heart beat and the same goes for my 29 but I love the hobby and want to learn not trying to go into busness just wanna be able to fix my stuff I love and be proud that I know how it works and that I built it just like my 29 I was so happy the day it came to life and was talking and still tslking on it

The thing is that it will be nearly impossible to help you if you don't already know electronics. Do you have any way to test the components you have? You took them out of their spots on the board so the easy way of looking them up on the schematic is gone. That's why your buddy shook his head. You will need to make a list of everything you have and test them and then make a list of everything you need. Use Google and Wikipedia to research the components.
