Can someone that owns one of these radios please tell me if this problem is me or the radio. I am thinking radio but with all the programing you never know. When I go through the channels and get to 19 the echo is on and the noise blanker is off. So I go to the settings and check, The echo is actually off. The noise blanker is actually on but for some reason on Ch 19 this radio has a mind of it's own. Now the reason I think it is the radio is because I did a master reset and it is doing the same thing.
Can someone help me with this?

I believe you can save settings for individual channels/frequencies on that radio. Example - I turn echo on while on Channel 19 - when I flip to channel 20 the echo is off but if I flip back to channel 19 it still shows on. I can't remember since it's been awhile since I owned the 6666. What happens when you reverse the settings and save?

I think you're right I couldn't figure out how to unset it I don't know how I set it in the first place must have been a accident LOL I ended up doing the master reset and I am starting from scratch. I wish I could figure out how I did it because I think it's pretty handy. Thanks for the help

Did you try reading the owners manual? I think it has a user memory that allows you set all the parameters you want for each channel then save it. As I understand it anything that is adjustable by the user on the face plate can be saved for any given channel of freq.

I have been messing with it. I can't screw it up because if I do something I can not undoo I can always do a master reset and start over. Wow I am laughing here. I am not real good with computers and now radios are getting like computers. All and all it is a decent little radio. Nothing seems to compare with my favorite the HR2510.

I HATE the menu system that is all the rage with Chinese radio's relabeled for US market like all of the Stryker's. Nothing Stryker sells was designed by them or is exclusive to them that is why they have that shit user interface and slow acting encoders and such! That is why I said and have always said Stryker, Anytone and the rest need a simple easy to use interface like the RCI 2950 or HR2510 no deep menu's. On top of that all of the Stryker products are far too expensive for what you get compared to the Anytone AT-6666. So the AT-6666 is a fantastic value but that does not mean I love it it is just better than it's competition for the price!

After lots of modifications, it runs circles around my old HR2510's. I'd never go back.
What modifications? How does it run circles around the HR2510? Obviously anything is possible but some substance would be nice!

All I want from the Chinese is to have an HR or RCI 2950 type face plate and control layout with ZERO menus!

Better receive, more power, phenomenal AM, SSB is very stable with no drifting, beta-matched ERF2030+ finals, Heil PR781 plugs right in and sounds great without mixer, display is viewable from any angle unlike the 2510.
It was a muddy sounding turd right out of the box.

SIGH...

And to think I caught hell on the Newsgroups for having users take out C61 to improve the tone of the TX...

It's ok...but don't forget the issue of Menu-driven versus all hands (buttons) on deck - making the operator do the work directly versus the uP under a Menu that requires you to stop your vehicle to read the display if something needed to be changed during the switchover - more than simply changing channel - stuff...

...you can throw a V8 into a Chevy AVEO - but keeping the tires under it, is a different matter...

Let alone keep your britches between the ditches...trying to read LCD-based menus...

Isn't that what Drive-Thrus' are for???

Regards!

After lots of modifications
I still find it amazing that you spend $200+ for a radio and in order to make it "sound" right you have to modify the crap out of it. Now I know that hams do the same thing and this is why I stick with the older gear as the damn stuff just works right without major modifications.

Mine is Factory I turn down the carrier a bit turned up the modulation a bit. The stock mic sounds fantastic. Actually the stock mic sounds better than a 575 M6. Tried the Heil PR 781 everyone says it sounds great .I noticed it does not sound too good with a Road King or a 636l astatic.. but almost any power mic sounds good on that radio. It really doesn't need all of the modfications that Rabbi pork chop talks of.

Kudos go out to all the old school radios. The only logical purpose for producing a complicated menu driven radio is to goat the buyer into purchasing an expensive laminated cheat sheet after several weeks of being frustrated with the regular menu. Now it becomes a matter of finding where I put the darn thing. If I find it, someone needs to remind me to make extra copies. :(

Well who cares about beta matched (no beta matching on mosfets) any extra power is negligible in terms of S=units gained on air in real world. Not enough extra power to make a difference. If you need more power an external amp makes far more sense.

Also not chasing watts from the radio will automatically help the unit to run cooler and you will have no need of the Max Mod voltage regulator up grade either! If you do not attempt to squeeze ever watt you can out heat, stability and parts life is not an issue! The real benefit if Palomar is being honest with their claims since no empirical evidence is being given is not the increased power output rather it is the improved durability at since most non-rf fet's are terrible at mismatch at any and all phase angles. This should be the main selling point but again that would require some empirical evidence!

How many run of the mill CB'er's are running a Heil PR781 on their Mobile Export Rice Box? I can not imagine there are a ton of guys buying a $230 radio and slapping a $175 mic with no PTT switch no mic cord and requiring a separate mic arm or holder. I am sure we can eliminate those actually using it as a true mobile radio which I would assume in 90% of the owners.

I would again say where is your and do mean your empirical evidence? Not hard-drives evidence your evidence!

Again no specifics on the mod performed either. Not generalities specifics done to the AT-6666 and to the HR radio you are comparing it too since any mods done to either radio matter's when A-B testing and comparing.

I have nothing against hard-drive just do not like fan boy advertising I would prefer specifics if one is going to say this is better than that! In fact I really do not count his video's as anything more than advertising and entertainment since he NEVER and I do mean NEVER tells anyone what he is doing. Not value wise either but he never shows his work or passes knowledge on. He is a little too selfish and condescending for my taste. I am sure he knows what he does and is very good at it! He just is not my sort of guy. I much prefer people like Nomad Radio, Mikes Radio Repair, Rodger Bird, Doc etc.....They are not as condescending and they actual share what they have learned over the years. He is just a bit to selfish for my taste. If you are going to beat your chest and say your the best as some point if your not willing to share anything it just becomes obnoxious banter!

Same thing applies to rifles, car's, reloading, cooking and baking! If you not going to share people get tired of your nonsense fairly quickly and you start to look like a Circus Clone or like a late night tv infomercial "Pitch Man". Might as well be click bait
" Infomercials" on internet that first appear like a PSA but 30 minutes latter they have told you nothing of real use have just been warming you up to pitch you their product. Normal a cure for cancer or diabetes or weight loss etc....

I can at the very least try mod's like Gold Finger's Mod and then see if it does what it says. With Hard-Drive you can not evaluate his idea's and validate anything! His pitch is longer winded than say Bells CB or Lester's but not really any better again since one has no way to evaluate his idea's for substance and originality!

I know people that had tech that could revolutionize world rather like Mr. Tesla but they would not share their tech with humanity because no one would right them a blank check. They never patented it becasue that would have made it easy for other's to reverse engineer the design. They ended up dying and taking their tech with them. Anyone that is willing to screw over all of humanity when they fail to get any traction from large corporations and world governments is not my type of person! These types would take things like a cure for cancer, aids, starvation, low cost energy with them to the grave while telling all of humanity to go pound sand over money. The most gifted minds that provided more to humanity than any other's seldom got a huge payday but their names have been recorded for all of posterity into the books of history and science!

I would also add that since Hard-Drive will seldom work on anything other then a small list of fairly recent black box radio's it is hard to A-B anything. He would have to do his very finest work to an HR type radio that has been recapped and had all parts that deteriorate rather a lot with time replaced. Then he would have to mod the unit and only then could we compare it to any of his most recent work. It would ideally be the last Generation in the HR series so a President Lincoln with the MRF455 final and the most recent alterations and updates to the board etc. Same thing could be said for Cobra 148 GTL or Uniden Grant XL etc.... Since he will not do these because they might need some work besides simply swapping out some parts and an alignment we will likely never know.

For the record I am not doubting Hard-Drives ability to modify a radio for vastly superior performance over the OEM's release of a given design! I am not doubting his work. I am also not making any issue with his prices either since price is relative to what you customers are willing to pay and not something I am interested in debating as it would only take away from the meat of the subject at hand. Plus anyone in a skilled trade has the right to set his own price per hour of time and again it is between the craftsman and his customer base to decide.
