I have a project that involves filling a small hole with solder. There is a machined surface near it that I really don't want solder to flow on. Anyone have any methods or ideas that might help? Thanks

Can you post a picture? Now I am really curious.

On a side note about solder, I learned how to solder when I was 10. One day I tried to melt a Lego block with solder by filling up the under side of the block. Well it didn't melt so I picked it up. The block was so hot that I dropped it and spilled liquid solder on the back of my other hand. I still have the scar to this day....

Tapes that have an adhesive are a bad idea unless you don't mind spending a large amount of time cleaning off afterwards.
