Bearcat 980 developed a problem

Ok all you 980 gurus ,tell me what to do.
Shut my 980 off last nite only thing that shut off was speaker.
Is there a way to reset it like my delta force,2 little solder pads?
I unpluged power with it on,off n no change. If its smt has to be a way to reset or reboot it
Was starting to like it and this happened.
If anybody knows show me how to reset it. Its a newer version as you hold anl nb down to end the annoying beep

Unpower radio....

Press and hold ANL/NB button while connecting power - hold button in while you turn radio power on.

Does it recover?

If not...

Unpower radio - disconnect the power while powered on...

Wait 5 minutes...

Press and hold ANL/NB leave Vol/Power switch in on - apply power...

Does it recover?

Let me know...

If none of the above works, then the standby mode it's in is in a "Demo - mode" - you may need to shoot an Email off to Mike radio to see if he can provide a better method...

tried all the above .called my radio man n he thinks the on off switch is going bad or dirty or spring in it broke.its a newer version but has set unused for 6 months

Hmmm. Power switch is a power switch - if the spring is broke, why kill speaker only?

There are power feeds to the "keep alive" memory off the back power cord uses the 8V regulator too...

May mean the power to the main PCB is out but the keep alive memory and it's isolation circuit may have failed.

The power up process was to force the beep the only thing you have worked on - to reset it's function and if perchance the path it took in the process - reset other features to restore the OEM stuff.

If that doesn't restore the function then the power supply switch would Kill RF TX - you can do that to verify the main board does power off but its keep alive isolation circuit has failed.

Next week im taking it to him n let him look.might be something else in left field. It transmits fine great reports n recieves great too.i was beginning to like it n it had to develope a hiccup

No sir,its bone stock,3.7 watts am pep about 10 watts ssb.i took speaker cover off to write my namen address inside with magic marker seen wax plugs in the square pots,coils looked untouched

hey your welcome glad your responding.this radio is sure diffrent from what im used to but its a glitch hope to cure as its doing great for the power.
Coupled to my A99 with low swr and my 8 amp power supply.i was trying it out on base until my floor hump mounts gets here.glad it did it in house n not in my pickup.i dread dead batterys

Im looking at it tomorrow.storming here lots of lightning,antenna coax is in glass jar.not sure if it helps but been pokin the 259 in a jar if im gone or during storms.45+ years of doin that

Well, yeah I'm concerned because you traded a bit for it. If my friends get a bum radio - d*mn straight it's gonna irritate me too...I want to be able to chat whenever I get out there - Gosh Darn It - you can be sure you'd hear me callin for ya...won't help if your stuff don't work.

nope it wont.but if i hard wire it in my pickup i can install a toggle switch in line. My radio tech will treat me ok.i read where a guy bought 1 n it did same thing.his was new though.
Other than not shutting off it works fine. My tech has 1 that has a good switch but other parts are messed up.,i got an old parts radio he wants so i feel a trade is coming.was gonna give him this old radio but he said he would fix my 980 for it

Handy andy,i found a reset n did it.didnt end my problem.
With power off hold menu and am,lsb,usb button down power up release buttons, push menu 4 times it show version v103 or v 104 depending on which 1 you have,push weather then reset is on screen push menu and defaults back to how it was new

The power switch fused itself in the closed position.
The 980 switches all of the lower current circuits via the on/off switch.
If the power switch is stuck closed it will stay on, appear to receive and will even transmit but you won't hear anyone because the volume wiper is still set to minimum.

If your guy can't get the on/off volume assembly I might be able to put you in contact with someone that can get you one.
