A cb'er here is using a old time what is called a avanti 5/8th wave base ground plane antenna and i know avanti is no longer making antennas so where could i find one? i looked at his and it just looks way better built than a maco ground plane and it transmits and recieve's way way better.

I've said it before but it's worth repeating. Penetrator, Sigma 5/8, Interceptor 10K, and the Maco V58 all have virtually the exact same gain on transmit and receive. If the antenna if a full length 5/8 wave it will work equally as well. One certainly does not outperform the other in terms of signal. The key differences are the quality of the mechanical construction.

I vote that this post be BRONZED

I'm still talking on one that I've had since back in the 70s.
One of the better antennas from back in the day.
If I had another hub I would put together another one for my get away place.

I have a few NOS Avanti's sitting in my storage unit that I purchased years ago. They occasionally show up for sale on eBay at astronomical prices. :(
