Larsen NMO-27-C testamonials?

You'll tell us that tomorrow. Just don't take off too much or you'll move the higher VSWR to channel 1. An 1/8 inch at a time is good since there is at least that much adjustment in the set screw. The typical goal is to balance the VSWR between 1 and 40 so that it is lowest around 20.
26 Dec. @ 1920
OK, I could not wait until tomorrow to compare the Larsen NMO-27 to the Browning BR-140-B. VSWR with the BR-140-B is; 1.3:1 on Ch. 1 and on Ch. 40. 1.1:1 on Ch. 20. The VSWR measurements on channel 20 on both antennas are so close to each other that it is like splitting hairs. Larsen = 1.0:1 and BR-140 = 1.1:1.
The BR-140 was the last antenna I installed and tested tonight and it's not coming off. I'll store the Larsen behind the seat as a spare.
Note: Diameter at the bottom of the BR-140 antenna mast = 0.085" and 0.105" diameter on the Larsen NMO-27 antenna mast. Splitting hairs!

I had my Laird roof mounted on my Durango but then sold it a few months later so now I'm finally getting around to finding a place to mount it on the altima. Problem is that I'm extremely limited... can't punch the hole in the roof because of the moonroof, can't punch a hole in the trunk lid because it has a rear spoiler so my only option is a trunk lip mount. Any of you fellas ever used a trunk lip mount? I never have but if I want to have a radio on the car it's all I've got.

I am a pick-up truck person and I've had a couple of (second vehicle) coupes and sedans and used a trunk lip mounted CB antenna. I think the reason why the radios did not have good performance with the lip mounted antennas was because the base coil was being blocked by the rear window and the coil was below the roofline. For traveling on the interstate and around town, the trunk lip mount should be fine. One good thing about the trunk lip mount is that coax is not exposed as with a mag mount. I am not in favor of routing the coax on a mag mount through a cracked-opened window during winter time, or pinching the coax in between the door seal.

I prefer a pickup as well but getting ready to transfer to where I'll have to commute a few miles every day for work so I had to go a more economical route, 29mpg vs 19 to 22 mpg these days. I'm not a big fan of the big mag mt. on a small sedan especially so looks like I may sacrifice some performance but how much is to be soon known. I appreciate your feedback, that's why I figured I would ask in hope that others here had experimented with the lip mount. I guess with not may options I'll order the laird lip mount today.

Yeah....go for it! I like the black trunk lip mount with the black antenna more than the flashy chrome.

Laird also offers a Trunk Lid Mount with coax but with no PL-259 connector. After you route the coax, you can trim-off the excess coax and install the Pl-259.

I've not seen the nogoya, yes laird offers several of which any of them I'll replace the coax with my own tramflgiggles. I like the black as in not a fan of the chrome especially on a black car, or in my previous case even the Durango just my personal taste though. I've used the laird roof nmo before and their cable wasn't my favorite so I replaced it with my own. I'll check that nogoya just for giggles.

I wound up going with the pctel/maxrad lip mount because I got a steal on it. Got it put on with the Laird cb27 this evening just to see how I'd like it and if it performs well then it'll be hole punching time.

Does that lip mount seem robust?
I'll post some pictures of it disassembled so you can check it out. It's probably not much different in strength as others, just a slightly different build approach. Here's a couple of it installed

Here you go Mudfoot, took a few pictures for you to judge.

It seems the underside is a little exposed even with the rubber bottom piece on it.
