First Ssb radio

I have two Lincoln II+, and one 2950CD.
Admittedly, I haven’t a lot of time with the RCI. It “feels” a little nicer - if subjectivity matters at all.
But... for me Its the Lincoln II+. The 2950CD is up for sale as soon (as I get my act together).
The user interface is vastly superior, IMO, such that the RCI doesn’t provide anything extra, and lacks in that area

I’ve always wanted a Ranger. Expense kept it away.
Other radio gear given priority.
I’ll own a PRESIDENT Lincoln well before I own a Ranger.
(And I’ve wanted one since the late 1990s).

Keep reading, OP, do searches here and elsewhere. If you really do have a choice down to only two radios, diligence in searching reviews & all will find the last info you need.

No matter what for some reason I always find myself going back to RCI.
On the Lincoln Ii you can go from 27.025AM - 27.555USB - 27.385LSB - 27.185AM - 27.577 USB...with just a press of the mic button.
Of course, whatever frequencies you want can be programmed in; it’s that it maintains the mode setting for each programming that makes this useful to me. That’s what I didn’t like on the 2950, jumping around is more cumbersome for me.

Totaly different radio's. First the RCI is huge by modern standards. Are you driving a Toyota Camry or a 1980's Suburban the sive of each makes a huge difference in where you can mount one. If you can not work the controls with out taking your eye's off the road it is worthless as a mobile SSB radio. So size matters in some applications.
The RCI is a much better design in terms of layout of controls and ease of use in a mobile environment assuming you can mount it some place convenient to reach and see.That said I bought my Gen 1 RCI2950 back in 1990 and they were $439 to $499 from HRO back then and built much better than today's version.
I also have a 1998 President Lincoln. The compact size makes mounting so easy. I had it in a Geo Metro for a while and it was so easy to find a good place I could mount it and actualy use the radio while driving down the road even on SSB. My RCI with Chasis mounted home brew amp never would have fit in that car! Same thing with my Camry, wifes Camry, Sons Saturn the RCI even with out the amp never would have fit any place I could see the radio and work the controls while driving. The Lincoln is an SSB beast even though it is a single final radio that single final is an MRF455.
The Modern President Lincoln II/Uniden is not a "Uniden" as much as it is a Chinese design similar to the AT5555, AT6666, BearCat line of radio's. It is a fantastic Radio for modern radio with a lot of bells and whistles in a very compact design.
If I was getting a radio to use in a modern car not a truck or SUV I would definitely get a Lincoln II and not look back. If I had the space for a RCI 2950 like in a fullsize pickup truck or SUV I would get an RCI2950. For base use again the RCI2950. Ease of use and not having to go through menus or put up with small display is hard to put a value on.
The stock audio on the President Lincoln II sucks on AM and SSB as it ships from the factory. Sure the freq. is rock stable but the audio sounds pinched and narrow and no mic or EQ on Earth will help with out modifying the audio and alc at board level on this radio.The audio bandwidth is too narrow and the alc is too aggressive as it ships from the factory. No one will confuse you for a high end Icom or Yaseu or a vintage tube radio at all. Do not get me wrong the audio is clean, clear and strong but not at all dynamic.
P.S. Due to space limits in my cars I would lean towards the Lincoln II myself but with the caveat that I can do the work if need be to make it sound good. If I could not do the work myself I would send it out to get the work done. I am sure there are guys that know what needs to be done to figure out retuning the audio and alc.

May I suggest NO GALAXY. Unless you want to drift all over and sound horrible on SSB. Either find a vintage Cobra 148 side mic or Uniden Grant. If going new the Anytone 6666 I'd a stable SSB radio
if a galaxy drifts it needs adjusting. Want whire noise buy cobra
bal0ny friend bought new snake,it sounds like its grinding corn. And i got an OLD galaxy 99V that doesnt drift. I also have 2 uniden 980 ssb.1 early version 1 last version. Avoid early version. They needed help
