Technician HF

I find NOTHING on the FCC website that says this has been approved.
This is another clarification on ARRL's part to try and get it approved.

That's because it hasn't been approved by the FCC and this is another clarification on the ARRL's part to try and get it approved.

Do phone privelages allow a technician class operator to use a mike to speak on those frequencies instead of using Morse code? I'm only asking out of curiosity as I'm not a Ham operator.
Thanks

I think this is a good move, I think another good move would be if they can bring back the code requirement for Extra. There are so many that have never touched a radio that has tested all the way to extra, they then come on the forums and ask what radio they should buy or what coax they should use. It devalues the Extra Class ham and the testing in general.

They would learn code and still not know what radio or coax to buy. How about a minimum IQ requirement and a physical fitness test. That would keep out the dumb and lazy folk.

I like this proposal as it gives new operators something to do other than 2m and 10m phone - one of which is dead most of the time and the other which doesn't really give tech's the fun or feel of the HF part of the hobby. There are so many tech's that never go further and I think this opportunity might give them that boost of excitement to continue further down the rabbit hole.

I thought they were going to allow phone on 20 though. Bummer that isn't included as I think that would be the most interesting/accessible for Tech's.

What was wrong with the idea that if you wanted more privileges you actually studied and upgraded your ticket class? People are just too quick to stick out the hand and say "GIMMIE GIMMIE" these days. Same as for having more tech requirements.Back then people actually LEARNED things other than memorizing answers to questions.

I think it would be good for a tech to get a taste of HF phone. Most guys in my area get their tech license and go back to CB.

They go buy a dual band rig and find the lids on the local repeaters. They decide ham radio sucks, have no desire to upgrade or spend more money on ham radio. These people don't have a HF rig or receiver. They assume 2m/440 is ham radio and get back on 11m.

The people that have an issue with giving techs access to a small portion HF should upgrade, if necessary, and use the extra portion of the bands. With the amount of extra class license holders out there these frequencies are underutilized.

All of these extra and advanced class ops trying to cram into the general portion of 75m is crazy. The FCC is going to have to give away privileges so people will use the real estate below 3800. Use it or lose it.

I have managed to get myself in a lot of heated aarguments on this subject. As I said way too many these days can memorize the answers and test out without learning a damn thing. I have seen it on the Facebook groups, they say "Hey I just passed my extra! What antenna should I buy?" My answer to them is always you're an extra figure it out. Then I ask how long have you been a ham and inveriently the answer is two weeks. I am all for helping out but come on....
