Had full intentions of trying it on the 959, just haven't gotten around to it. Please report back if you get to it first.
Tried playing with R176 on the 959b today and going with 330k seemed to really brighten up just about any microphone I use. The sra198 seemed to have gotten the best improvement over the rest but probably because it was so quiet to begin with.

when you talk about too high a value of coupling cap being used, does the solution you refer to involve lowering the value of C154 from .22uF to say, .1uF?
