11 meter is very quiet?

I just don't think you need to go above 27.405. I understand there's an international crowd that hangs around 27.555 and other points above the legal 40. But honestly folks, CB/GRS just does not have the volume it did in the 70s and 80s. With a little effort you can usually QSY off of LSB 38 doing fellow operators the courtesy of not crowding up the frequency while also allowing you to continue your contact. Heck, there are folks out there still operating on their old 23 channel rigs!

Just my thoughts.
I'm pretty sure anything is legal on all of the 11m band theses days. If the FCC cared we wouldn't have the super bowl. 38 lsb is just as bad. It would be great if people were courteous but we live in a world where it seems the majority have a me first view.

When the DX is really running hard 38 lsb is almost useless to have a QSO of any length. When the DX is running from other countries you can get on 27.555 and usually make a contact and move to another frequency and have a decent conversation. Now and then though it is fun to pull out the big guns and fight it out on the bowl or up on 38 lsb lol

I was driving through Miami on the way home the other day and stumbled across a bunch of guys on AM 10 talking skip. They all were talking about how much power they were running. One guy mentioned he was at 3700 watts. Another was running 2400. I think the lowest I heard was 800 watts. They mentioned a buddy of theirs having to shut down because he was causing problems in the apartment building he lived in.

If only they had discovered LSB 16...

I know your pushing hard to relive that memory of channel 16 lsb as seen in another thread. But you also push hard about everyone being legal. There's a lot more rf hash and trash in the atmosphere now than there was back in the day. Not just cb's and amps. Unless conditions are perfect, the legal limit of 12 watts ssb won't get you very far. Not trying to start a pissing contest and I'm willing to give 16 lsb a try. My stock radio I use puts out 70 watts pep on ssb so it's illegal on 27.155. So do I switch to one of my other radios to stay at or below 12 watts, or can I just roll with it and not worry about someone reporting me?

I get that others have a different take, but I enjoy the challenge of achieving as much as possible within "the rules".

In over 4 decades of operating on CB, I've never once operated with more than the legal 4 watts on AM and 12 on SSB. Here in the Keys, I've talked to Hawaii with my Cherokee AH-100 using a 4' center loaded walkie talkie antenna as I walked from one side of a sandbar to another. My son was pretty amazed when we dropped anchor off of Elliott Key (15 miles SSE of Miami) for the night and the same Cherokee AH-100 driving a 1/4 wave "Marconi" set up that was operational in 15 minutes was talking all over the U.S.

Besides, if NASA can go back to the moon after 50+ years, we can reclaim LSB 16 after 40+.

Well I've exceeded the legal limit many times in the last 40 years I've been working 11m radio. Did it tonight and will do it again tomorrow. Hell my stock Cobra 2000 throws a massive 7.5 watts from the factory. Maybe I need to take it to a tech and have the factory settings turned down so that my factory radio is legal. Not everyone lives in the Keys where it's flat as piss on a plate and surrounded by water. I'm sure you do quite well with only 4 watts on AM and no geographical features near you. But even you have to admit. It's only possible when conditions are just right. Guess we should agree to disagree and let it go. Maybe someday we'll get the chance to talk on air. I'll be 128 in NW Arkansas running power on AM and SSB. But only when I have to.

Not a bad for me today. Had to do an 80 mile drive, made contact with 126 in NJ and someone in GA who might have been using the numbers 21.

Also had a quick QSO with 008 in AZ, but that's local since I was driving through his part of the state. But he was my first contact using the AT-5555 plus, so a special mention is warranted.

Where are all you boys at? It's going hard this evening on my end!
Turned on the Ranger earlier this evening for a few minutes and the DX propagation was pretty good, didn't try to make any contacts as I'm under the Weather with Bronchitis and Pneumonia, got my antibiotics and headed back to bed,no work for me today or tomorrow, just resting and trying to recover,at least it's not COVID again!!!!

You've had a rough few months, you best get yourself healed up and to heck with the radio. Hopefully we'll catch you on the air soon. Get well my friend
