Variable power for uniden pc244?

Anyone know of a proper variable power mod for the uniden pc244 radio? I searched online, also for president ar144, ax144, cobra 146gtl as they are basically the same radio but came up with nothing.

Dirt-simple way is to first connect three wires to a 5k control that you can find a knob to fit. Locate VR10 in the rear corner opposite the driver/final. Remove VR10 and solder the three wires to your new control. Find somewhere to mount the new control.

I heard doing it that way can burn the pot up? Although i dont See why, a pot is a pot just different styles.

That might be true of other 40-channel SSB radios, but not this one. The pot feeds directly into a 5.6k resistor. This will limit current coming out of the pot well below any danger threshold.

And fancier setups will have hazards like this, but we're not going there today.
