Predator 10K

Took my Predator 10K off today to try a new Francis
5.5 ft antenna. They said "pre-tuned", in the ad when I bought it. I mounted it top dead center of my extended cab truck and Wal Ah! Was a 1.1 on channel 1 and a 1.4 on 40. 1.25 on 20. That's pretty close to tuned.
Nice antenna. Seems to be flexible but don't bend back too far running 60mph.
I'll put the predator back on when I get my new Breedlove mount mounted in the center on the bedrail right behind the rear window.
Hello 2012.

I remember, mannnny years ago when I put my 1st Francis, a "Wheeler Dealer." on the rear bumper of my PU. I too found a match very similar to your results above.

I called my radio buddy, and he told me to snip off a 1/4" from the tip. So, I got some snippers, and I found the cutting very difficult. I was surprised that very thin wire in the tip was so tough. I checked the match, and it was much better in the high end...just like I wanted.

That was the very first time I ever talked skip on my new 40 channel CB radio, and that too surprised me.

IMO the Francis was one of the best CB antennas I ever worked, but I'm not too sure that the Francis, of today, is built with the same 3 wire design in the original version.

I wonder if it was copper coated steel Eddie.
I used a Dremel on the one I trimmed for 10 meters. The one that got caught in the carport and broke, I heard it and stopped.
It was really bent over and the top foot or so of antenna was wedged in the cross member.
The 3 wires were still holding the antenna together.
I cut it with lineman pliers, and I struggled to make the cut.
I did not think about it much at the time it just added to the frustration of breaking it.
I have to go look for the patent and see if it describes the wire elements material.

That’s easy to test. Go get a magnet and see if it attracts the wire. If so, it is copper clad.
