Cobra 2000 Frequency Counter Board

Another Cobra 2000. Some time ago I considered what it would take to develop a drop-in replacement and just walked away. Might be easier if you didn't also want the clock. Maybe "less hard" would be more descriptive then "easier".

Junk radios are few and far between.

I've seen a few "junk radios" here and there. But can you guess what always seems to be missing from them when I do find them ? You guessed it, their frequency counter boards ... lol.

I've seen the boards for sale before in the past. I just never needed one at the time. I'll just have to keep my eyes open for another one to pop up. That's why I was asking around in forums, just in case someone has one laying around ... kind of like a barn find for classic cars ... lol

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate any help I can get.

Never have made a "trial fit" to see if a SanJian PLJ-6LED counter will fit in that window convincingly. Pretty sure that one is still available from fleabay. Has two drawbacks. No clock, and only one offset. You would have to choose one mode to read correctly and live with a 1.5 or 3 kHz error on the other two modes.

And if it's just too big, it's too big.

There is one on eBay for sale. I just saw it a few minutes ago.
Thank you tramd. I saw it last night, and I was planning on buying it. But then today I decided to try my own frequency counter board one more time , and believe it or not I fixed it. My Cobra 2000 is back to working now.

Thank you very much for helping out. Also thank for your great videos too. I've been subscribed for years and love to watch your videos.

So my next question is, why does my Cobra 2000 still sound like the audio is overdriven on it ? It's an old issue, but I thought that it was capacitor related. So I did a complete recap on the radio, and now everything is running nicely ... except for the fact that after all of that ... the audio still sounds overdriven on the peals even though the mic gain is set low.

Any chance someone clipped R228? This makes an average wattmeter happy, but makes the modulation "tight" sounding.

I'm not tramdr, I'm tramd. I've used that "handle" for almost 30 years out here on the internet. tramdr came along much later. He used to be the Undertaker, not to be confused with the Undertaker here on this site. People always think I'm him, or he is me. I actually don't live far from you. tramdr is from Detriot.

Originally it was my grandmother's radio , and she bought it new. But since she had someone put the extra channels in it for her (which I wouldn't have done to it), I'm not sure enough about it to say no to your question .... lol.

But I wondered about myself, so I'll be checking it.

Thanks
