Just picked up my 5th Cobra 2000. It has the factory installed MB8719 PLL installed. How easy would it be to just had some wires and a couple of SPST to get some extra frequencies? Does anyone have the procedure for this? Thanks for any info.

Thank you sir I really appreciate it. So I'm guessing I should have to change out the crystal or cut traces or diodes or anything of that matter?
If you just ground pin 10 radio will go up one band. No other mods needed.
thanks buddy I'll add a SPST switch there to Pin 10 and ground the other wire. I see a lot of diagrams showing to cut the trace leading up to Pin 10. Is that if a 2000 had the MB8734 installed?

Pin 10 on the 2000 is isolated by default, so cutting a trace isn't required. Also, I never knew the factory to install the mb8719, rather the mb8734, so it may have been installed later, I could be wrong. Here is the "Poorman's channel conversion" I have for the 8719...
It's easy, but the channels aren't exactly in order and quite a few dupes. IMHO, if it's going to be mainly used for ssb, this is the way to go. If using mainly on AM, a xtal kit will keep the channels in order and no dupes, but the added drift and headache of keeping the xtals on point make it less desirable for ssb use, although it can work if you keep the leads short and remain diligent. That's all I got, so good luck.

thank you so much Cable Guy. I will give this a try next weekend when I have time. Yeah I'm thinking that MB8719 was replaced in the 2000 many years ago but the channel mod was never performed.
