Ok, got the 8 tube GTO today. Everything looks great other than the center holes of both SO239's are wallered out big time.

User got rid of due to not keying up anymore. He said he was talking on it and heard an arc around the rear corner and it smelt like electrical arc, then it wouldn't key any longer. All wiring looks great and firm, no visible heated parts or cooked/blown parts, lights still come on, tubes still light up as usual.

I think the arc came from the center of the jumpers pl259 tip not making contact with the center hole of the SO239. Seriously, I have never seen so239's wallered out this bad. I honestly don't see how it was even working for him.

Had a customer years ago who made his own coax jumpers. His claim to fame was a carefully-crafted ball of solder on the tip of the center pin, a bit bigger around than the pin diameter. Thought it would improve the connection.

What it did was to waller out the SO-239s in everything he brought me to repair. Had to bend them back inwards before my stock center pins would even make contact at all.

Pretty sure I hadn't heard of Dunning-Kruger back in those days.

Ahhhh yes, Dunning-Kruger. I deal daily with self-annointed audiophiles (audiophools) that do the same to otherwise nice (and expensive) rhodium connectors. RF ain't the only place full of "Ah kin make it werk bettah by....":ROFLMAO:
