Sometimes i have crazy ideas and this is no exception. Has anyone ever tried tying a long wire antenna to balloons filled with helium and letting them rise to about 3 or 4 hundred feet? Seems like it would work. In the Navy we had an emergency radio that used a kite and it worked fairly well...

I installed the ground rod for my shack but was only able to drive it in about 3.5 ft. before I hit rock. Do you think this will be enough? The ground should stay moist enough and I really don't have another place to move it to.
