Tested a portable elevated "V" today

I think I have talked to that guy in Jamaica several times. Those POTA folks come up with some great ideas that are easy to setup like nikdfish has done here with his antenna. I always work a POTA when I hear them calling and no one is coming back to them, I think its a great program, no...

I love it!! Messing around with that type of stuff and wire antennas is a ton of fun. Good Job.

    Favorite QRP rigs

I love to take some coax, ladder line, wire (Normally pre cut multi band lengths), and a couple current baluns and make my own doublets or dipoles as you talk about. Those far off contacts with the camp gear are Kewl!!

    Favorite QRP rigs

I liked my FT897, it had the LDG tuner bolted to the side of it that was awesome, I held onto that longer then the FT857. The FT897 became the camp rig after I got the FT991. Eventually sold the 897, at that point I had two FT991A's. Camping with a scope was a really big advantage, yes, the 857...

    Favorite QRP rigs

Mine was mobile and developed that issue but in a spot that was not critical. One of the locals wanted it really bad and paid me to much money for it, I didnt really want to sell but when he hit the $950 dollar amount I let it go and got the FT991. What an upgrade, so glad I sold it after that...

    Favorite QRP rigs

Never owned a QRP rig. Figured the ones I liked could be turned down to 5-ish watts anyhow. My FT857D was small enough to take camping and hardly bigger then a QRP rig that interested me.

    Why I'm not a prepper

You said it well Sir!!!!! Here in the Bayou of TX its pretty nice. Its a tight nit group of folks. When someone has an issue we all go to help if we are at the local diner to hear about it, we have two little diners in this town of 1800. There is also a party store/beer store and a Family...

    Mobile Antenna ideas needed !

Punch the hole in the roof is my vote! I hesitated for years doing that, once I did I realized how good it really was.

Don't Understand Domestic Contest Stations Operating In The Extra Portions

It was about the weekend and having a good laugh while enjoying my day while listening to two hams trying to get call signs right for about two minutes and then both saying 59!!!!! I was carrying on like those two hams, they could have said anything and they would not have known any different.

    Coax Comparison

I will be going with RG400 when I put my Quad6 in the truck and the Maco base. Its a little pricey but I dont need that much, maybe 12 feet from the radio to the screw driver antenna. I really like the shielding it has and the PTFE dielectric. I got extra to put on my Maco 5/8's as well. I need...

    Dumb ???? #5 (mast insulation)

I use a pieces of fiberglass mast 4 foot long. I get a ID to accept the metal mast then drill a hole for the bolt and nylon lock nut.

Don't Understand Domestic Contest Stations Operating In The Extra Portions

I am in the NE corner of the Texas bayou, just up and out of the flood plane on most of my land (9+ acres), when if floods I have about 1/3-1/2 of an acre in the far back NE corner that becomes the bayou. I get plenty of the snakes all year long and the occasional wandering gator once or twice a...

Imax 2000 with ground plane kit VS Maco 5/8, what is your experience?

I have heard of others using radials for the other Ham bands as well. I intend to one of these days. Mine seems to work well on 15m to with my tuner.

Recent Experience with MAX2000 Antenna + Significant Money-Saving Tip

Both of my new Imax2000's had this little notable solder braze as well, my old ones did as well but hardly worth worrying about. I just put the end of the lock washer against it and called it good. The extra piece (optimizer) saves you from using a 102" whip to get a better tune on 11M, 10M does...
