    11 meter is very quiet?

Yesterday afternoon my wife and I were driving home from a late lunch and I fired up the radio. It was only a 10 minute drive but we had a great contact on 36 or 38 LSB from NW Oregon (Sherwood) to Missouri. The band was rolling in and out and we just hit it right. Pres McKinley with a KL203P...

Was a great hop season! If you ever visit check out TopWire Hop Project and Wolves & People. Amazing area for beer.

I live in Sherwood Oregon. Willamette valley. You would think that the WX chans would be fired up around here. Nah. One is the norm on every radio I have ever used. The McKinley picks up two and that second one has either been dead until recently or the McKinley has a really sensitive tuner. My...

It is very 'on point' from what I can tell. But I have noticed that on side bands some people that are broadcasting with tons of power sound better with a little nudge. Pretty sure that is all on the TX side. But I don't have a ton of time with it since it is in our pickup truck and I don't...

Current setup. I will trim the lower panel to make it fit and I will print carbon mounts to duplicate what I worked up with some steel. Tight but frankly it's all I got. The camera makes it look tighter than it is. The radio is not in the way when going into 4L or 5th.

    Which one?

My 3' Skipshooter replaced my 3' Firestik. I run the 3' around town and the '5 Skipshooter when I am trying to get out. But frankly today the 3' was enough. As for the fit, it's rough, but I have fabbed up a mount that goes under the center console that I will be duplicating on a 3D printer. I...

Thanks! So far I am loving this radio. And the fact that it isn't made in China is huge.

    11 meter is very quiet?

I was out pulling winter wheels out of our storage unit and 38 lsb was going off!

So on the McKinley should the 'fine' freq adust have a strong center detent or is it a bit loose? The 'course' adjustment has a strong center and I suspect the 'fine' is OK as is but I wanted to check while this is in the return window. It works fine (no pun!) but I am just curious.

    Naked Skipshooter

Gotta love the clear option that Skipshooter offers. Super cool.

Software Defined Radio SDR for 11 Meter

Fair enough! The right tool for the job is the right tool that you know. And WINE is seldom the best option. Frankly I just fire up a VM using Vagrant and my Ansible scripts if I need to run a Win program...quicker and better than WINE.

Software Defined Radio SDR for 11 Meter

Fair enough but I just can't think of anything SDR related that can't be done better in Linux for free and you can build your own versions of software with your own modifications if you want/need to. I just think Windows should be used the least possible and especially if you need to run old...

Software Defined Radio SDR for 11 Meter

Try the "live" Linux options. You copy an image to a USB stick then boot from it. Everything is ready to go and it won't change anything in your Windows install. It is all just run in RAM.

Software Defined Radio SDR for 11 Meter

Just wanted to add a point that may be controversial but if you are digging into SDR for the first time go Linux. Windows just sucks for damn near everything but gaming and the software (free software) that Linux offers for the HAM and SDR user are unmatched. I can't think of anything I could do...

I spent the better part of today installing the McKinley in our 2000 Tacoma. I am going to end up 3D printing a lot of parts to make this fit but it seems to be a hell of a radio. The receiver seems to be excellent. For WX it is the only receiver I have that can actually pickup the "other" NOAA...
