I had a good QSO with 333 this evening on 16 LSB. The QRM was managable. I think when the skip is rolling you are going to have problems with AMers no matter what channel you pick. If we keep moving around the band it will be harder to establish our "turf". My vote would be to stay on 16 LSB but...
I have a few scattered groups of locals that occupy their own AM channels. They don't seem to interact with each other unless they are having a four letter filled feud of some kind. There are no close SSB operators, and a few distant freebanders on 26.915.
I had a Wilson 1000 do the same thing, no receive, key it up and it would be ok for a while. It got worse and worse. Replaced the coil and it seems fine for now. I use the mag mount for a backup antenna now,
