    Stake Pocket ideas

Blackcat- I run a sirio performer 5000 with the angled breed love mount, and have no issues with antenna performance with it in the front pocket. Contacts northwest, Southwest, Midwest and twice across the pond. Rigexpert shows good tune and set at 1:1.0. My advice....use the front mount and a...

Home Radioddity QT80 HF Radio Review

Moleculo....good review! Are you using this for a base, or mobile?? Only comment I have is that I set it up in my Dodge ram, using the same setup as my cobra 148 gtl and the sirio 5000 I had been using. My 148 worked great, talked skip to ark, mo, nc, fla, tx, and twice across the pond. For some...

    Something missing??

Have been fighting ignition noise on my new qt-80; and recently installed a powerwerx filter, fit like a glove, and does cut out some noise, kinda. Also found a post moleculo put out 2008, and am in process of building one. His post required a 4700uf 35v capacitor that I am waiting on....so I...

    Torroids for cmc

I read K0BG's info on CMC, basically uses the same chart, so pretty much used that as a frame of reference.....

    Torroids for cmc

Funny, being an old guy, and having run old cobras for years, kinda finding out that new radios are a lot more sensitive to CMC, etc. the snl and noise blanket works ok, but never seemed to have this problem with old board cbs......price for modern technology?? Anyway, got another coil, and...

    Torroids for cmc

Yeah, never mind. I think senility is setting in. It was a 240-31, 1 1/4 " id. I have ordered a bigger one, trying to get 8 turns with least amount of trouble. I'll usually smaller one for different application

    Torroids for cmc

Hooked up new qt-80 in the truck, and have been fighting noise problems. First Alt whine, which I figure will go away when I install filter, and second, receive noise on almost all channels which I figure is CMC. So to start, I inspected and cleaned feed line and antenna connections, all were...

    Another thing to learn ....

Thanks. So my plan is to shorten the whip some more, intention to see if I can get to a point where I can be good for 10/11 meters. Did some playing yesterday up and down.....so as you can see on 28.040 got good reading for x, but swr up. So I'm going to try a shorter whip and run an swr graph...

    Another thing to learn ....

Well, my original plot had set at 1:1.21 with x at 4.91. Thought that was pretty good, but in changing antenna length to try and tune to 28.800, finding I can drop swr but x goes out bad. I'm going to try adjusting the whip shorter.....think I have a spare around. Had already cut the whip down...

    Looking for mobile antenna recommendations

Minivan huh? I'd say check sirio performer 5000, and go to breedlove's website to check for mounting options .....excellent quality stuff, definitely worth a look.

    Another thing to learn ....

Oh, yeah, btw- is that 4.91 on the x reading far off, or not really?

    Another thing to learn ....

Thanks for the input, DB. No, the magnet mount did. This one has the coax running from the radio to a breedlove pocket mount with an so239 adapter. This was only my first use of the aa55, so it will take a little while for me to get used and understand, but unless I'm entirely wrong, I figure...

    Another thing to learn ....

Ok, so just picked up a new rigexpert aa55, and just want to throw out some shots. So, had tuned my sirio performer 5000 with old micronta meter, truck bonded fairly well, and on 27.205, it reads 1:1.1. So then installed the 55, and took a couple of initial readings on 27.205, just to see what...
