CB Base Antenna

For that kind of money for a cb antenna I would go with an inteceptor 10k or a bm technology shockwave. Unless you run a stupid amount of power a 5/8 maco ground plane will do just as well.

I used to run the maco until I got scared of it arcing out and killing my tubes. The shockwave has been up for a few years now and I'm happy with it. I would have bought an I10k but they weren't available at the time.

For the most part a 5/8 wave vertical is a 5/8 wave vertical. The extra cost over a maco is paying for the name and/or quality of materials. I think workman makes a cheaper version of the maco but I know nothing of the quality.
I also considered the SIRIO 2016 but I read somewhere there is a concern with dissimilar metal with a copper coil housing attached to the aluminum radial hub.

I have one at the moment, tuned really well and transmits very nicely

Welcome to the forum Recon.

I've heard this claim before, so I looked it up on the Internet typing into my search the following, "Is copper compatible with aluminum?"

Can you tell us what is likely to happen to the Siro 2016 in this case?

I found this on an old WorldwideDX forum.
Quote: "there is a problem with them which nobody on cb forums in the uk ever talks about but virtually everybody local to me has issues with and that is the hubs erode and the antennas go open circuit, they also use dissimilar metals which is a terrible idea, copper coil direct to mickeymouse aluminum hubs,

Hopefully, there are some on this forum that have used the Sirio 2016, and will come on and tell us their experiences.

All I've ever heard about the 2016 were good reports and usually we mostly here bad reports.

Did you check aluminum vs. copper and see what other's have to say about this issue?
