Uniden 980 and RM KL203

My kw with c 16 produces noise, lots more when accelerating.nobody knows why.tried ferroite n other things.very low swr drounds everywhere ,wired direct to battery pos n neg now what or like why?

Get the NEG off the BATT. Ground to frame. Better, ground to hardpoint in cab (as one guy said, steel makes a pretty good filter).

I have the Uniden 885 Hybrid CB/Scanner back in the Pete and I’d forgotten how much more sibilant noise the digital Unidens reproduce

So I’m going to try my suggestion to you. Just ran out of time this morning during install.

Anyone have display problems with their 980s?
I am trying to decide between one of these or just getting another president McKinley. The reviews everywhere make it down like the display problems are rampant,

I’d recommend a 980 as the basic don’t fall below this level of features & performance.

But if the McK is within budget, get it instead.

It was like that since new or is it fading out?
I guess there is a dividing line between Rev1 and Rev2. What I can't figure out is if the display problems are on the latest Rev2 radios.

Had mine a year and it’s seen 2-3 months use (up to 75-days and 700+ hours). Same as when new.

I don’t ever turn brightness up all the way.
Same with contrast.
2/3-3/4 of each with both.

So I picked up a 980 for a good price to try it out last week. This is a Xmas gift for my brother to replace his ratty 1001z in his truck.
I mounted it in my Jeep’s cobra29 bracket and put some time on this weekend at a 4x4 trip with some friends.
On AM and with my 636l mic people said I sounded good. I had to lower the mic gain because the radio has some sort of AGC thing that ends up clamping until you rekey. You can hear it happen in the talk back.

The one killer feature the McKinley has that this doesn’t is the auto squelch. Driving in and out of urban areas that is such a nice thing to have. I can’t speak to the viewing angle to much because i didn’t want to peel the plastic off.

I agree with Slowmover the McKinley is a better CB but for about the same price I was able to get the 980+wireless mic. I think he will enjoy the bling over the slightly better performance.

With a bucket of ferrites in which to dip all the cable ends — and a DSP speaker — I’ve got the 980 in my big truck operating pretty cleanly with Max Range RF Gain chosen.

The wireless mic comes tomorrow.
