GMRS brings something different to the party.
It has developed quite a loyal following. The way folks operate on their reminds me a lot of CB in the pre-Convoy days when you'd hear call signs from operators who had paid for their FCC licenses. The FM mode, UHF 462-467 span, authorizing up to...
No luck today yet. Lake Eerie SSB club wasn't coming in at 10:00A.M. I've had LSB 16 on while doing things around the house. There has been absolutely no activity on LSB 16 at all.
I tried a few times yesterday and continued into the early evening. Skip propagation was dead.
Lake Eerie SSB club starts their net in just over an hour at 10:00A.M. I'm going to give them a shot and then try on our net at our usual noon school schedule.
Some of the on-line services are indicating propagation conditions today, May 4th to be in the "GOOD" range for 12-10 meters. I'm listening to LSB 38 right now and do not hear a single U.S. station. However, I am hearing "zero-zero-seven" in England (Mr. Bond, himself?), 972 in Germany and...

Note Rule 95.531(c). It says: "FRS units normally communicate with other FRS units but may also be used to communicate with General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) stations."
Conclusion: the FCC is explicitly O.K. with FRS (license-by-rule) and GMRS (licensed units) talking to each other over the...
It has been pretty dead down here, too. There is occasionally some skip coming in, but it is pretty tenuous. This is the second week-end in a row where the skip propagation has been disappointing.
The skip started to pick up a bit from about 3:30 P.M. eastern onwards. There's a Mexican dispatcher I get all too often when the skip rolls in. She was coming in and so were some guys on AM. But my effort to communicate with the WDX crowd were a bust.
UPDATE:
Daytime propagation conditions for 12-10 meters are in the GOOD range according to various websites. We'll start testing those predictions tomorrow at noon and follow our usual protocol of looking to the top of each hour as the prime times for hailing. We'll do it again Sunday.
May...
LSB 16 NET: April 29th-30th
The skips gods have been unkind to us the last two (2) week-ends. Let's try again this week-end and see if we can make LSB 16 great again!
I can't think of a day this year where I have heard less daytime skip than today. Occasionally, someone from DX-land will come across the receiver. However, the skip has been pretty much non-existent today on LSB 16, LSB 38 and any other channel I frequent for the purpose of talking across a...
APRIL 22-23, 2023 LSB 16 NET:
We'll start at noon eastern/9:00 pacific and follow our protocol of using every hour on the hour for our primary hailing times.
I'm going to try something different tonight and have the mobile on LSB 16 from about 8:00P.M. eastern to 11:00P.M. eastern. Let's see if I can get the DX gods to work a few over-time hours.
