Be careful raising and lowering that thing if you have power lines around! Get some help if needed.
Adjust swr with just the radio, no amp or jumpers.
I put one up at work and it tuned right in!
Good coax and meter is a must!
Good luck :pop:
Thanks fellas! We did build new gamma's from tethlon! These style gammas have been in use for years.
I'll lay it down and face it in the air, and tune per your instructions. When we tuned it last, we just moved the gamma on the globe and couldn't seem to get it right. Knowing to adjust the rod...
While this is still a warm thread! How does the gamma system on a pdl work. I have built a four element and am having difficulty tuning for lowest swr. Do I need to slide the center rod of the gamma tube or just move the connector on the (what I call) the globe?
This may save me a lot of time...
Some stats about what you have tried would help with analysis!
If you have used the measurements that are in the manual, there's no wonder your having problems.
As stated up stream, the swr your seeing is better then some stations out there.
I've had two P500s and both of them were over 22...
The local news showed some pics of a large tree that had been stuck! The tree was in splinters!
I have all my equipment bonded to a ground rod installed six inches from the base of my push up pole. The push up pole and the mounting plate of the antenna are bonded here as well.
When we have...
This is my 4x 4CX250B box. It's setup to cruise at 800 or so (on the bird)!
Run hard, Ill see 1000!
My tech is just now finishing it up.
I think 300 out of a 250b may be pushing it alittle hard!
Good luck!:pop:
I run just enough echo to "enhance" my audio! Some cant tell I run it until I turn it off! Then I hear " what did you do, your not as loud". There is such a thing as moderation.
It's not much diffrent then an amp, if you run it too hard you'll sound like hammered stool!
Sometimes I've wish...
The four element PDL is almost finished! My tech is going to build a new gamma for the horizontal side. We built and installed a new one on the vertical side today! 1.1 SWR on twenty and tuned with a MFJ tuner.
I tried to upload pics but apparently the files are to big. I'll figure that one...
Robb is right!! Don't cut anything! If you take the radio to a radio shop, you can get a tune up. Around here the techs get twenty or thirty bucks. Also I have used the RK56 in the past and it did ok but as stated you have to drive it kinda hard! I have switched to the Astatic 636L hand mic...
Funny you said that! I bought the 2950DX that had a 2970DX faceplate on it!
I thought I was buying a 70! I know, I know all about the heat sink thing NOW, but I didn't then!
Anyway I have a 2995 DX as well and get better reports on the 2950 DX.
Sorry about the side track here!!!
I've got a local that runs one in his pickup! He beats the crap out of that radio and it is still one of the loudest, best sounding radios in town. I almost bought one but picked up a 2950DX instead.
I'm building a four element in two weeks and using 14 gauge galvanised stranded from the hardware store!! Works well and lasts a long time in the Oklahoma wind! Copper has a tendency to brake from all the flexing and ice.
Take pics!
Have fun
P.S. You should pre stretch your copper wire or...
Are you guys finding alot of garbage in your registry? Do these apps make your systems faster or can you tell?
I'm kind of a novice when it comes to computers but I'd have a hard time living without mine!
Would I notice a difference?
Thanks
Right now I have a 2995DX and a 2950DX in the shack. I was using the 2950 the other night, then switched to the 2995! The guys I happened to be talking too told me to switch back! Seems the little mobile sounds better then the big bad exspensive base!
I love The Ranger line. For the money you...
Here in OKC we deal with several popcorn storms throughout the season. Personally I think an operator is pushing his luck by having his equipment hooked up during a storm let alone talking on it. All my equipment is bonded and grounded. But a direct strike could take out everything in the house...
