It's not likely that there's a specific Schematic on that amp, I assume it's like the solid state 677 Golden eagle amp that has a variable.
Can you find a part number on the old variable?
Any ohm's reading at all or is it open?

One of the first radios I ran on 10 meters was a 148 bodged up to 28 MHz.
Lou Franklin had plenty of info about ten meter conversion back then.

AM junkies don't want bias, it gobbles up current that they consider a waste, I too went through this phase many years ago.
" Class C works fine for SSB"
As I actually began to understand how radio really works, my views changed.
A lot.
Carl has been using the HG transistors for a while now...
I have to agree, the Mitsubishi logo doesn't look correct on that 2312, it looks like some fakes I got some time ago that were branded Fairchild, they were worthless.
I filed a claim and got my money refunded and the Chinese vendor on flea bay didn't want them back.
They were listed as...

There are others, Breedlove also make quick connecters, there's cheaper options, I choose the Hustler stainless just for strength.

I ran a Predator 10k single coil on a 27" shaft on the driver side rear corner of the bed for years on a 01 ranger.
They make Stake mounts that fit in the stake holes, I used half of a standard mirror mount bolted to the inside of the rear rail.
It was on a Hustler stainless quick connector so I...
I agree with BC, most mobile antennas less than 48" are super lossy, they will show a good match as far as SWR, but not very effective.
What kind of vehicle is it?
Possibly a loaded longer antenna mounted lower on the vehicle and keep the load above the roof?

Here's a low profile antenna, however it's not cheap.

It was good again this morning open to the east coast, from Florida all the way up to Nova Scotia.
It was a mess on the 35-40 channels, but by just ignoring the clowns you can still pick out good contacts if you work at it.
It was much easier to ask them to go up to .400 there you don't have to...
The diodes that contact the heat sink help with this as the diode heats up it helps reduce thermal runaway.
The Messanger amps were know for being biased hard to start with.
