    I actually have the 930, and the AM/SSB model.. Cant remember if it was a 950? They both work very well. They look to have been made by Cybernet to me by looking over the insides.

    I had a very similar, if not identical issue with a 148gtl once. Turned out it was a 220uf 10v cap that shorted near the audio transformer.

    I have far too many of the older ones. They were on sale for 22.00 shipped. lol I also have the tri-banded 5R with the added 220 band also. They seem to work fine for what they are.

    I hear you! I once paid 190.00 for a new old stock sealed unopened tool kit for a Honda 90 trail bike. Got a bit amped up chasing original part numbers! Does not happen since then though, as I learned that day! Haha
