    Best transciever I’ve got

Today is a good example. I was cruising around 3.9 somewhere, you know how these things track, and I was enjoying these fellers rag chew. For fun I kicked off the nb and the noise floor came way up but still those guys were in there. Pulled the rf gain back 1/4 and it was good enough even...

    Best transciever I’ve got

It amazes me that out of 5 hf radios, the best sounding radio I own is in my atlas 210. It is more sensitive and quieter that any others. The noise blanker actually works. Just the noise floor is much quieter than the others just idling. Blows me away considering the lack of crap packed in the...

A full wave open stub coaxial loop 80m

I’m thinking about trying to adjust the length of the antenna element using rg8x vs 58 since I’ve got a bunch of 8x. I’ll start with 144mhz. Should just need to make it 14% longer than the usual. Edit Oh thinking about it, how much difference would 25 ohms make in the grand scheme? Without...

A full wave open stub coaxial loop 80m

I believe it’d change your impedance for one. Then you’d be looking at having to match it. Which would defeat the matchless design. Then you’d have to consider the power handling capability bet even the coax. I’m not even sure exactly what you could push through the other one.

A full wave open stub coaxial loop 80m

its a read for sure. i hate patent papers. too much repetitive nonsense. i just hung a delta 80m and im interested in this matchless design as it should drop a fair amount of loss off of it. im not sure if youd get much harmonic work out of it though so it might be just a 80/40m but thats fine...

    Triangle horz delta loop

I’d love a circle. Logistically it’s not an option right now. My house has a metal roof and I’m trying to keep from crossing it. That’s why I went with the triangle. Height is where I’m looking now.

    Triangle horz delta loop

Sad to say that while the triangle did work well the gains or losses compared to my ocfd were hit or miss. Maybe if I was up higher or had it orientated a little different. I will say that you should try it just to see. Edit. I forgot to mention it is much quieter than the ofcd. I’ll raise...

    Triangle horz delta loop

For fun and out of sheer boredom I strung up about 280 ft of wire in a triangle suspended about 20’ off the ground and threw a 4:1 balun at the north point for a feed. Trimmed it close enough and I’ll try it out tonight. If I like it I might consider doing a bigger loop for 160 I dunno

    Ofcd vs fan dipole. Opinions?

I’ve been running a 80-10 off center fed dipole with the feed point at 45’ for a few years. I’ve been thinking of switching to a fan dipole. The ocfd is fine just wondering if a fan would be better. Any opinions on a difference between the two? Is one better than the other?

Explain the differences in moving 2ft

Nah man. 10&11 both. VHF I get but 11$10 are not quite as bad although it happens

Explain the differences in moving 2ft

Imagine you’re driving down the road in your local backwoods farmland. Radios on windows are down and you’re enjoying the drive. You are on blacktop highway and other than a fence beside the road it’s open and clear of obstructions. You hear a station so you get the idea you’ll hit him up. His...

    Ground mounted cb vertical antenna

Wouldn’t you in reality be building an ocfd to some degree then?

    Storm got it

Man it’s an old archer .64. Fortunately there was no damage to the antenna itself.

    Hustler btv5 revisited. Again

I’m not saying it didn’t work. It actually did good on 15 and 20. 10 and 40 was not as good. But I’m comparing it to an ocfd and ground plane. Put it up man

    Tower as antenna

When I set up my tower I didn’t want to dig it in the ground so I could move it if I wanted to. So I used a plastic 55gal drum and poured in 5 bags of quiccrete. It’s anchored to the eave of the house. So it’s essentially isolated from the ground. It’s 55’ of tower I think to the top of the...

    GMRS Repeater Linking Banned

Arkansas had a quickly growing link system. It was pretty slick. From two servers on opposite side of the state for redundancy to a zero channel to line of site auto switching beamed linked repeaters. Now that’s gone. The owners are out of pocket untold dollars and the users are going to...

    Hustler btv5 revisited. Again

I bought a silent keys shack and included was a hustler btv5 antenna. I tried it when I first got it and was not impressed. It’s been hanging around on the shed roof and I thought maybe I didn’t give it a fair shake. So I put it up again today. This time i thought I’d follow all the...
