Don't feel alone in the clutter, you should see my garage work shop. I spent a life time filling it with tools and equipment as I could afford it but too many jobs to do and no time to organize. I sometimes look at it and say I have to better use my space someday. But look at it this way, You...
Yes good old PA road salt takes it's toll on our vehicles and mines a 2009 with a 160000 miles on it but still runs like a champ and gives me 30 MPG on a trip.
I was under my Cobalt most of the day doing rocker panel work but did run to town for parts and didn't hear squat. Back under the Cobalt for the rest of the week to Git Er Done !
It's a nice little radio after you get use to the menu system. I had a bad experience with mine at first because I got one off frequency ( Bad part in the SSB circuit ) but after 3 repair shops President sent me a new one which I'm happy with. I guess any company can have a bad radio once in a...
You guys are a lot smarter then myself when it comes to radio stuff seeing I've had no training in that area. If my plate wasn't so full of projects already I might take on learning more but as it stands now a $50.00 antenna is making more sense for me. LOL
I had the home base antenna disconnected most of the day because of thunderstorm forecast but heard lots of yakking on the mobile while I was driving. But couldn't make contacts. At one time I switched modes on the radio while driving and heard clear talking but when I got to my destination I...
It was about 74-75 when a buddy got me into CB and my first radio was a 23 channel Royce mobile with a 102 whip for my Volkswagen and a Shakespeare Big Stick for the house with a little Radio Schack power converter. Heard of and wanted a SSB radio but poor-boys could only dream. I got married...
I got a delightful surprise from the radio room this morning. Short skip rolling and made 4 contacts, some on the 2547 and others on the Lincoln II+. And wouldn't you know I have business to take care of so I couldn't hover in the room, but at least it looks like my Star Duster will be a winner...
We could use some of that stuff right about now. Spring and early summer it rained almost every other day or a few days in a row. Made the grass grow like crazy and fight to get it mowed. Now the lawn is burning up and some trees are losing their leaves already. Last week we dealt with Wild Fire...
Just for the heck of it I turned on my base station at 4:15 PM and the radio was dead as a door nail on both lsb and am. And when you can't even pick up the Stupid Bowl ( Toilet Bowl ) you might as well find something else to spend time on. LOL
Well that's kind of nice to talk to your brother uninterrupted. I'm not lucky enough to have a brother to talk to, or anybody around here into radio. It is what it is !
Well conditions weren't that great around here today but I did make 1 contact on my base down in Florida but it was nothing to write home about. Up on the hill in my mobile I did hear 1 call out from California but couldn't make contact. At least I know my Star Duster should be ready for action...
At one time I had the Star Duster and a Super Penetrator up at the same time trying to do a performance comparison between the 2 antennas but that was before the upswing in this DX cycle so it was hard to compare. I finally got tired of the game and settled on the Star Duster because the old...
Sirio variant. And it's been up 4-5 years so checked it over and every thing seems in good shape with the Weep hole still open and no problem loosening the Allen set screw to make the adjustment. A simple antenna but gets me out of this stinking valley.
LOL That is the funny part, after I finished the job and tested with my 3 SWR meters to be sure, DX dried up. And this morning first thing I tried that solar index site and they said conditions would be good today but I haven't heard Squat so far ! LOL I guess I have to mend my ways so the DX...
Well finally today I finally got to my long awaited project and was pleasantly surprised to end up with almost a flat-line SWR by shortening the antenna by only 5/8 inch. Ya just don't often get perfect so I had to say good enough for this old country boy. WOO HOO !
