Hello all. I have a Yaesu FT-991a that is in need of repair. I know I can send it to California but I was wondering if there is a shop/service center closer to Indiana? The radio is out of warranty. Thanks.
They did make two versions of that radio, FFB4 and FFB6. Your version is claimed to do 400 watts. Maybe when the finals were replaced the first time they de-tuned it a touch hoping it would last longer.
Carl is the one that built it back when he owned X-Force Amplifiers, too bad. You might try one of these builders and see if they can help you. If not E-Bay used would be about the only place. Good luck.

Back in the day I owned a Magna Force 100, 200, and 350 (built by X-Force). They all had a nice low SWR and worked great. They were class B for SSB use, should have kept them lol. Carl is back at it if you really need a well built amplifier. I also had a Joker amplifier with regulated AB bias...
Great explanation. Unfortunately quite a few “cb” amps are this way. You will find for the most part the custom amp builders pay closer attention to input/output tuning.

Nice old school radio. Keep in mind that radio could be as old as 1988. This means if it needs work finding someone to work on it will be hard, new parts impossible.

The 430s is even older, possibly as old as...
With your Tech license most of what you will do is 2m, 6m, 10m, and 70cm. A hand held radio will cover 2m and 70cm for you easily. For a base radio I would at least get a radio with a built in tuner. There are some new options that are great deals and you can make them long term radio's. (have...
The more I read up on antenna specs and coverage I think I will just have to do multiple antennas. At least two and maybe three lol.
This has some very good coverage.

So my spring/summer plan is an antenna upgrade. Currently have a mono band Tram BF2M3 on 20 feet of mast pipe. Works well for MURS and 2m talking. I might be asking for a lot but I need something that can cover 2m, 70cm, MURS, and GMRS. I've been looking at the Diamond x300a and a Comet GP-6. I...
