I measured the voltage at several points, but everywhere I get similar results Voltage at L26 and L27 Voltage starts about 5v and gradually drops to 0 volts. reminds me of a cap discharging, even used the scope with a 10x probe to make sure the digital VOM wasn't giving false readings (I think)...
The ongoing saga of my 2547 alignment, Having changed probes and grounding I have been able to bring the PLL alignment to spec except the USB frequency jumps around at least 1khz I can center on a frequency but it seems to go up and down, the IFT (L24) coil seems to make large random changes...
Your right! but only 10 meters on HF bands
Did you notice they didn't include my favorite band 20 meters
If it was up to me I would limit techs to 100 watts or less, that would give incentive to upgrade.
I sure learned a lot!! Always fun fixing something that's not broke:rolleyes:
I saw those crystals on ebay and wondered if the could handle the current?? since the factory crystals are rated at 1mw and most of the other crystals were rated at 500uw or less?? any info on the specs or is it...
Technician License doesn't give much of a taste of Ham radio.
Phone currently limited to 10 meters and 10 meters is dead right now.
Maybe letting them make contacts on 40 meters will spark some interest in upgrading??
This is all about having fun and learning things

I am getting 10,236,50 grounded and with no ground 10.240.02 (Floating)
Measured from ground on underside of board to pin 8 10,236.50 same as to EF3
Measured the resistance from the FL3 wire to chassis and 9.9 ohms
Measured from FL3 ground wire to IF cans 0 ohms
Thanks

I think you miss understood?? I used the ground from FL3 to the case of X1 crystal as my ground for the frequency counter. See Picture
Appreciate the help
New development
I have been getting my frequency readings with the ground wire from the frequency counter on the ground wire from the X1 Crystal and the positive probe on pin 8 of the PLL Chip per manual, when the ground is not grounded I am within 5hz which is in spec?? What does this mean?? Am...
I installed the new crystal and not much joy,
How much adjustment should VC1 have and should it be linear??
I can peak the frequency in the middle of the VC1 range, But still 2.5Khz Low
Before I replace VC1 is there anything else that would cause this??
I was thinking about the cap in parallel...

That works but of course I am trying to squeeze every watt out of the unit. But would like the luxury of dropping the output if I want run a amp.
I am beginning to think it's better to tune them up stock and just buy a amp:)
Hello
I have been playing with my 959, I can adjust the AM TX high power to about 9 watts and when I try to adjust TX low power to 1-2 watts I can only get it to about 5 watts.
Is there any way to change the 4 watt spread?? or am I doing something wrong??
Thanks
I called Radio Shop Supply and they said there is none currently in the US but pulled one from a new board to get me through, I'll see if I can add the VC1 to the order
Thanks
The new galaxy boards EPt069611A appear to have upgraded Q17 and switched to Schottky Diodes??
Am I right in assuming there is not advantage to upgrading??
Great Discussion, although most of it was above my head <GRIN>
Hello
Aligning my Galaxy 2547 and found the X1 Crystal off by 4Khz manual says 20hz??
Having problems finding replacements
any sugestions?
Thanks

did you mean sampling the output via the antenna or is there a test point for each coil??
and you weren't kidding the book is expensive $150+ on flea bay
I did peak the transmit section using a watt meter, but do you recommend using the scope instead?
Is there a book, video that explains the best way to tune , peak a radio?? I enjoy working on radios sort of like working on cars when I was younger... make them purr like a kitten and roar like a...

Thanks for all the help, setting the mosfets voltage correctly made everything work properly, I was about a volt low. The biggest problem I was having was using the chassis as ground, I was getting a voltage 2.75 that would drop to nothing?? I now know the capacitors were discharging.
I have...
