    What was your last meal??

9:1 Unun and Non-Resonant Wire Antenna

Anyone ever tried one of these? I just built one using ~53' wire and a 13' counterpoise. The wire is only up about 8'. I'm thinking about eventually going with a ~175' wire up higher, but right now I'm experimenting with this one that I made out of wire from a horizontal loop antenna that came...

    Radioddity QT-60 *Pro*

My new QT40 showed up last night. I haven't moved the jumper yet, wanted to give it a preliminary test before popping the cover. While doing so a little while ago, I had a short QSO on 28.410 with PY1FJ, Pabricio in Rio De Janeiro. 59 both ways. He's not giving 59 to everyone, either.

WHAT RADIO ARE YOU USING FOR YOUR GMRS BASE?

Yes, it is repeater capable. You will have to set the offset (+5 MHz) because it is not automatic. You can do that through Chirp or manually from the keypad.

WHAT RADIO ARE YOU USING FOR YOUR GMRS BASE?

TK-8180 is good too. Here's a new one with everything you need for a mobile setup, including the antenna: https://www.ebay.com/itm/167050197589?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5336136228&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1 As with most commercial radios, you will either need to buy a...

WHAT RADIO ARE YOU USING FOR YOUR GMRS BASE?

Another one to consider is the Icom F6021. Another case of a real radio selling for the same or less than the junk RR and Midland are selling.

WHAT RADIO ARE YOU USING FOR YOUR GMRS BASE?

I wouldn't deal with Rugged Radio. They are even worse than Midland, plus they bought a license for some business band frequencies and sold programmed radios to Jeepers and racers with the fraudulent claim that anyone who purchased a radio would be covered under their license. Some of those...

WHAT RADIO ARE YOU USING FOR YOUR GMRS BASE?

Kenwood TK-880. I also have some TK-840s that I occasionally use. Those don't have as many channel slots as the 880, but they are front-panel programmable. I used to have a Motorola, but sold it because the Kenwoods are so much more user-friendly. Also I've heard from several sources that...

GMRS resurgence in the making ???

The real difference that sets GMRS apart from FRS is repeaters. Cheap bubble pack 22 channel radios don't have the capability of working repeaters. "Real" GMRS radios do, and so do UV5Rs and the like. But even if an unlicensed user has a capable radio, repeater owners can (and in fact are...
