Speaking of big antennas, it used to be a big deal to work Arecibo via EME on 432 MHz. It was only activated for ham radio on rare occasions. Unfortunately though, the window of opportunity has passed.

Filters are where it's at. Can't work them if you can't hear them, and you need good filtering so you can dig out the weak signals. It's also good to have a dedicated rx-only antenna port, especially on the lower bands. That way your rx antenna can be optimized for noise reduction, then bring up...

They're trying to do just that. No doubt about it.

Yeah, that's pretty much how they do "polls" here too. Sounds like an airgun that is under 500fps/5.7j that looks like an antique gun would be ok.
