    Help Selecting a SW radio

RTL-SDR is my go-to watch the bands radio. Does all kinds of modes and has awsome computer display with SDR# (SDR sharp) software which is free. (The older version of the software are better than the ones.)

10 and 11 meter noise floor insane!

I found that my Chi-Com HT chargers put out a lot of noise when there's a radio sitting in the charger. Also noticed that switching from a horizontal or vertical antenna for 10 meter at different times can help. Sometimes one is better than the other with no explanation.

Can someone educate me about CB Ch. 6 AM (27.025) ?

The Superbowl. If you figure it out, please share. It does help indicate potential conditions on 10 meter when 11 meter is hot like the Spike Jones band warming up. There's some youtube interviews with a couple of those guys.

300 ohm ladder line on 11 meters ?

In reading about dublett antennas using twinlead and antennas needing 4:1 matching due to twinlead/coax connections, I keep seeing claims that there's less noise and better SNR than some other antennas because of the symetrical nature of the matching system??? I don't know, was just wondering.

    Drugs.

Stay away from manipulators. Playing their game is not helping anybody. In fact it hurts others in the family. Jails are full of them. Let them find others to victimize.

    10 Meter Aluminum Rotatable Dipole

I'd like to try a 10 meter rotatable horizontal dipole made of aluminum tubing. Based on lack of product availablity, I'm wondering why nobody does this. Is a vertical that much better? I suspended a wire 10 meter dipole between chimney's and it worked well, and picked up very little noise...

    lincoln II + question

He's having an original thought; sort of like "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear". It implies that inferiority of the product limits it's function or modification of function.

    lincoln II + question

Here's the link to the engineering menu. Don't recall anything about SWR in there. It's good for fine tuning frequency for side band etc though. Think up/down/band boot gets you there. Band is the memory "burn" button to save settings...

Technically, not CB related...and may even get me thrown out of here!!!!!

I love this forum because we we have actually have grown ups who are capable of having original thoughts and are willing to learn new stuff. Kudos on your exam !!!

Some Russian Forces Apparently Using Open Analog Voice in Ukraine Conflict

The creepy relaxing hypnotic music tells me it's a propaganda click bait piece. I just want to talk about radios.

CB internal coax to antenna jack broke off.

I like the idea of just using a pig tail. Radios I have with an external pigtail connector are easier to deal with when swapping antenna wires.

    Vertical coaxial antenna build.

Painting the PVC with dark flat paint to camo it? How will the tree affect your swr ? How about using one of those black fiberglass telescoping antennas to get it up above the top? Decorate the antenna itself with some old plastic christmas tree parts to blend it into the scene. Is it to...

bad noise on radios on 2 meters

Maybe it's just rigging to raise and lower parts.

Still waiting for that kid to bring back 16 inches of fallopian tube from the supply room.

CB internal coax to antenna jack broke off.

Post a picture. I wouldn't use a cable stretcher. They're not that great.

    whats best?

Is it all DX? I have a vertical A99 and horizontal EFHW. The horizontal EFHS does better for local, in state contacts. The vertical signal needs some distance before it starts to skip and it works good for DX. Forget product favorites, and start with what one wants to accomplish.

    did i screw up?

Had some issues with mine that were easily corrected but tough to figure out. I like the radio a lot. The Chinese don't let their engineers communicate outside China so support answers and documentation can't be obtained. I'll post the link to this group. There was a lot of mashing of...

Some Russian Forces Apparently Using Open Analog Voice in Ukraine Conflict

They use very advanced SDR comm. Extremely fast and broad frequency hopping. All modes. All frequencies. Encryption. Firmware can be "poured in" to introduce new made-up modes on the fly. Also compatible with all older equipment and modes which they can easily monitor. Lots of Russian...

bad noise on radios on 2 meters

Looks like blades made of fiberglass over a balsa wood frame are pretty common.
