    Noisy radio, is this normal?

All frequencies all the time? Does it happen with other radios? Do you know if the prior owner did anything other than the Expo kit? Can you RF gain the noise away but still retain good sensitivity? It could be the receiver was over-tweaked when the Expo kit was installed.

Here's something I've never seen before- Thought I knew everything about D&A but didn't know about these! http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&toolid=10001&campid=5336136228&icep_item=161659842073

UPDATE: Well it took almost 5 months and a lot of cage-rattling at ARRL HQ but today I received my call. KG7SKH

You are correct. My bad. Same story though!

    Licensing glitch

Well that's common knowledge. Remember the Bunny Ranch up in Nevada? After the Government took over it went broke- proving that the Government is so inept it couldn't make money running a whorehouse and selling whiskey!

    Licensing glitch

Was told by ARRL that they rely almost exclusively on volunteers to check the inbound license apps before forwarding them to the FCC, who then simply issue the call because the exams are presumed to be correct. FWIW all 3 of my VEs were Extras, but that shouldn't make any difference.

    CONCIDERING HF TRANSCEIVER(11 METER MOD)

Most modern HF radios are easily modded for 11 m operation. Many of the classic HF radios were also modifiable with varying degrees of difficulty. You mentioned that you are primarily an SSB operator. This mode is where HF rigs really shine. Although many of them do have an AM mode, they...

    Licensing glitch

I got the CSCE upon completing the exam and the VEs in the local club sent the exam pack in. I still have the original copy of the CSCE. After a month of no action the local club president decided to call ARRL and find out what's going on, that is when we found out the original exam pack was...

    Licensing glitch

I've done that. ARRL acknowledges that the exam pack was received, but no one there can seem to recall where it got to. I'm still working on it, will post when and if I ever get my call!

    Licensing glitch

Greetings All: I've been keeping this under my hat and was waiting for official notification and issuance of a call sign before making the announcement, but circumstances have forced me to appeal to the group at large for some help. Here's the problem: On Dec. 2 of 2014 I took and passed the...

    Base station questions

IMO the 139 XLR is a better radio but if you choose this over the others there is one thing you need to be made aware of: While it is easy to mod them for extra frequencies and opening up the clarifier is a snap, I've never known one that could be made to slide any significant amount. Yes, you...

Manual Tuning a old TRAM D201 with extra channels HELP!

It can get confusing, but it's not difficult once you know how. Keep the channel selector on channel 12. Switch the control knob to 'manual'. Tune the VFO to channel 12. See that little button on the right side that says 'Manual Cal'? Pull it out. Tune VFO until the tone stops. Push in...

    Seriously?

It is a good one, but the best name EVER for an amplifier has to be the Hallicrafters Loudenboomer.

    Seriously?

I've had a few of these and still have one in the collection. Nice amp, but it's output is nowhere near what the seller claims. 800 watts out of a 1x3 6LQ6 combo? I don't think so. It'll do 500 if you hit it hard enough but it won't sound good and the tubes will quickly flatten. It will run...

    RADIO SHACK RIP.

In this time, the waning days of the once-great RS I suppose it's time to share my personal RS story- everyone has one. I spent a large part of my young life in the local RS. Often cutting school to hang out with the guys at the local store. I received an excellent education in retail sales...

Info needed on Mars MRC M 458

One of these just drifted into a friends shop. A 40- Channel SSB portable. I've never seen one. Information on it is minimal. Anyone know anything about it? I could really use a schematic.
