The most over Looked Part of the shack

I bought the most comfortable leather high back executive chair I could find. Tilt, armrests, adjustable height and on wheels. Picked it up at a local Goodwill thrift store for about $20. Needed a good cleaning and oiling, but beyond that it's perfect.

    WestCom Engineering TXL-100B

Had a TX-50 many years ago. Cute little thing it was! Just one little switch, on and off. However I have seen some versions of it that had what appeared to be a second switch added in a separate case, but still attached to the main case. Never could figure out what it was for.

Who makes or sells this sound?

Because there isn't enough noise OTA already. </sarcasm>

    cobra 148 27.415 to 27.435

Is this a side-mic 148? If so, the channel expansion follows a rather strange sequence. Using both the dimmer and tone switches they will go from about 27.455 through 28.045. For some reason .415 to .445 is skipped. They also don't progress sequentially, but rather jump around depending on...

    Newbie Here w/Some DX Questions....

I keep trying to get to Russia - specifically St. Petersburg where I know there is a school that has a lot of vintage Russian-made radio gear in it (I've seen it- used to teach English in the next classroom over)- unfortunately everytime I call DX for Russia, France, England and Scotland keep...

OK All U Beam Antenna Freaks.....

Isn't most noise vertically polarized? It would seem to me that having a horizontally polarized antenna would make for quieter operation. What do I know, I've never had a beam

    Does anyone use this mic?

With the 10 DA head, it would be the one in the middle and YES people still use them. The 10 DA head is superior for SSB use. The D-104 head -AKA 'lollipop' mic is also very popular, and far more common.

    For anyone with a VFO

After extended testing I have more to add about the X-Lock: The only negative I can find is that I have lost some tuning at the top end of the VFO. Prior to the X-Lock my D201A would tune to about 27.835, although it's practical usable limit was never more than about .795 - above that it just...

    For anyone with a VFO

Those of us who have VFO-equipped radios are all too familiar with the problem of drifting. On AM it's not much of an issue but it makes SSB operation more of a chore as you and the receiving station chase each other around trying to stay in tune. This was a problem on my D201A. No matter...

    Lafayette HB 525

As I recall Lafayette (or, as some used to call them, Laff-a-lot) had some type of proprietary security device built in. Either that, or it was a pigtail power lead for their 'priv-a-talk' accessory which was sort of a primitive attempt at CTCSS. Never was a big Lafayette fan although they did...

President Madison Blackface. anyone seen one of these before?

Can't say that I've ever seen one. One thing that strikes me as odd- the seller claims it's an 'import' model but the power cord is clearly North American 115V standard. Also I don't see any additional features as might appear on an 'import' model such as FM or, if it were made for the UK the...

    Poll: Roger Beeps

If I'm communicating with the ISS or other space mission - then sure, bring 'em on. Otherwise, please turn the damn thing off. ESPECIALLY the ones that are 10x louder than the actual transmission. We used to call them 'good buddy' beeps when more drivers ran radios - it's how the good...

    405 in Sunny San Diego

Haven't heard 405 but who the hell is the joker on ch. 20 AM? All day, everyday- He splatters over onto 19 so badly that it becomes unusable.

    V J EXSPANPER 5?

Never heard of a VJ Expander 5 but I would imagine that it adds extra channels. Back in the old 23 channel pre-PLL days it was common to add an external box that had a rotary switch that could select different crystals that would provide additional frequencies. Get ahold of a frequency...

Does anyone remember this CB Radio "Trucker" woman figure???

Love the name! 'Little Fat Girl'. Back when I was running OTR we used to hear the guys parked out on party row in the truckstop calling for one of those all the time. Pretty sure that they wanted something more life size though! This is the sort of thing that would probably pop up at a swap...
