    APRS

One bit of caution in case it hasn't occurred to people yet. Having people aware of just exactly where you are has resulted in some burglaries and theft of equipment in peoples' shacks. It is a shame to have to consider this, but just be aware that talking about when you go on vacation on a...

    WOW....

If you haven't already tried it, for a more stripped down digi interface, try 'fldigi'. DM780 is awfully nice though.

JK JEEP - BREEDLOVE ANTENNA MOUNT -

Verrry nice. Had I known about his mounts before I put the Hustler ball and spring on my 05 Unlimited, I would have got one.

Computers+Vista and all that other $#^+

The Vista install that I have (32bit) has been 100% for me so far, though it's only occasionally used. I test some SDR software during project releases on it. It is Vista premium I think and was a factory install, though it did take me 4hrs to get all the adware that HP puts on it removed.

Computers+Vista and all that other $#^+

If you aren't using payware that requires you to have Windows...get a linux 'live' CD, boot from it and check it out. If you find you can get what you need done, install it. I keep Vista on a dual-boot for a few things like the programming software for some radios and remote controls etc...

Help me choose a nice straight key

I'd like to stick to straight key. The main appeal for me is to get a solid fist on a straight key. The tradition of it holds the appeal for me. If it was just about the digital mode I could always just use software. One of the other reasons I'm interested is because you can make...

Help me choose a nice straight key

I have one of the Chinese army surplus K4 keys. It's pretty solid for the $40 or so I paid. Was NOS still packed in the preservative wax paper. I just have to get around to learning all the characters now. If I finally do it and find I like CW, I'll be getting a Begali. They are pure...

Whats a brand new Texas Star 1600 worth

For what you can sell that for, you can get a 3-500Z based tube amp that will run much more easily on house current and will have a lot cleaner signal too. AL-80B, AL-82 come to mind. 3-500ZG's are nice tubes. Very rugged and relatively cheap. You pretty much have to intentionally kill them...

Whats a brand new Texas Star 1600 worth

Yeah I had one of those a long time ago just to play with it. To power it I had six marine deep cell batteries in the back of my truck. I had to charge it with a plug-in charger. If I wanted to keep it, I would have had to have a whole separate charge system for the deep cell batteries. I...

    Key up noise toy's

I really like the Godzilla scream. That's my favorite that I've heard so far.

    HID lights and cbs

You'll find out that you will know where every dying transformer, traffic light switch, hybrid car etc etc lurks in your area. I know all the 'hot spots' within a 10 mile radius that are bad enough to open the squelch even in FM mode on other bands. Mobile noise is a bitch.

Question About Using AM mode on HF

I think that will give him quite a bit wider signal on AM for TX though...afaik the stock filter setup is more like 6k wide. Factory SSB filters give you a narrower TX and RX and are useful for interference, but the AM filters generally widen you out so you sound better. At least that is my...

    Texas star dx500v

On SSB, a signal is generally speaking 3kHz or less wide. If someone has a clean signal there, if they are on 3.808 LSB and you are on 3.805 LSB, you won't hear them, if you are both running 3kHz wide. A dirty signal (could be a wider signal too, but you need a band scope to see that most...

If either one is not overdriven, you would not 'hear' the difference. The adjacent stations would likely notice the TS and not even know you were there with the legal amp. 6m users would likely know you were using the TS too ;-) and likely 20m users. I used to run class C and AB1 amps all the...

Question About Using AM mode on HF

Get a decent noise gate. The Behringer Intelligate (might be a different name) is for the money an amazing unit if all you need is a noise gate. BEHRINGER: XR2000 A true downward expander/gate will be able to clamp out huge amounts of background noise and do it as transparently as possible...

what NPC/RC mod looks like on a scope

I L O V E my Symetrix 528e, it's a voice in a box. All stages are just perfect for voice. I was a sound man for about 5yrs or so, in clubs and on the road touring. I'm well familiar with many many pieces of rack gear and particularly for radio use, the Symetrix is fantastic. 1U and it's just...

    Texas star dx500v

It just gets old. Same point, explained clearly, over and over and over again....which in itself wouldn't be so bad...but the same guy has done the same thing in I think three amp threads this week alone. The explanation is given, then he goes back on it and tries to mislead people. The...

what NPC/RC mod looks like on a scope

Oh it upped the output power...but you have a dirty signal now. Congratulations! If that is what you wanted.

    Texas star dx500v

Which it doesn't have...you are a slow learner. It would not in any way produce a legally clean signal in SSB mode unless highly modified. This forum is about giving people the right advice, not justifying illegal activity under a cloud of misinformation. Why do you keep propagating...
